There's alot of good Sprint action in the area. As stated check out the UMSS website. Cedar Lake Speedway also has some good Sprint action with some IRA shows and the WoO have a show there every year.

I live 30 minutes north of St. Paul and have made the drive to Jackson many times. There are a few must see shows down there but I wouldn't want to make that drive from the Cities every weekend. On the other hand I'm darned near 60 so those late night drives are getting a little more difficult for me every year. Their Spring Sprint Nationals is going to be an ASCS National Tour race and always draws a lot of top quality cars so that will be a good one. I have attended that event for the past few seasons and really enjoy it. Unfortunately I travel to most of my races alone so I foot the bill for the gas so that one is probably off my schedule temporarily. If you can get there for that one and the Jackson Nationals all Sprint night by all means do it. I'm jealous of you just thinking about it. wink

Depending on where you live Arlington can be a good show but be prepared to sit through a bunch of classes, think it's six other classes of Stock Cars and Mods. Some Sprint Car purists don't like having to do that but if you don't mind a little variety in your racing program it's a big historic Fairgrounds track.

Not to take anything away from those places but the all Sprint as well as the combined Sprint and Late Model shows at Elko and Cedar Lake are my favorites. Truth be told the way it's looking I might end up reverting to plan B and running out to Cedar Lake for some weekly shows this season. It's only a half hour drive on a Saturday night so when there's nothing nearby I'll have to drop in and catch up with old friends. I love following the UMSS and IRA but the key word there is following which = gas which requires $ which is something I don't have a lot of. Friday night racing isn't always convenient for me either but if you can make it out to St. Croix Valley (formerly Kopellah) there's going to be some UMSS shows there. Princeton has the Outlaws coming back and Cedar Lake has them on a Friday this year. I'll make an exception for something like that on a Friday and plan on hitting all the Kopellah winged shows. If I see in the results that the non-wing cars have a decent field I might add a few Friday nights if I can swing it.

As you can see, depending on your finances and work schedule there are plenty of opportunities. If you have some travel companions you can split the cost with Knoxville is about 5 to 5.5 hours from most of the Twin Cities and almost all freeway. A lot of Twin Cities area Sprint Car fans would rather make that trip once in a while than sit through Stock Cars and Modifieds at the tracks up here.

Happy travels and welcome to Minnesota.

Well put!

That post was a result of years of experience. I spent many late nights driving winding two lane highways contemplating this before posting my observations on here this evening. wink

Spring Nationals are not ASCS National, Jackson Nationals in August however, are.
