It depends on who you talk to. I've heard 390 - 500 HP for MW305 & as much as 550 for the K'ville engines. I was told these #'s from racers... we all know that race car owners never exaggerate!

we never had our motor dynoed but it was said to be in the high 490s to low 500s compaired to another motor the engine builder dynoed which was identical except rods..people are saying they are getting 535hp out of 34 raceway legal motors and our driver flat out left all but one car the only 305 race we ran last year....you can have hp but if you can't set up the car or your driver can't drive then the hp isn't gonna do any good

We run out at 34 weekly and our engine builder guesstimates our engine at around 475hp. We do not want to put out the $$$$ for dyno time. HP numbers are really funny. It seems that you can take off roughly 50 HP from every number that folks put on their engines. Which is to say that yes, even ours may fall into that category. Someone here made the comment that racer's don't exaggerate, well I agree, we don't. We are making 550hp! lol (not really)

You could take a 360 with standard port steel heads and run it in the 305 class at Knoxville and you probably wouldn't get caught. They don't tech. All they're worried about is the weight. Your not going to keep the cars comparable if there isn't a tech program going on, regardless of the class. That's one of the reasons we haven't ran there. Heard stories all year long of cars in victory lane that were running roller lifters. That makes it real encouraging to make the longer tow to K-ville.
As far as HP numbers most are not an apples to apples comparison unless your taking it to the same dyno guy. Couple years ago the 600 number was thrown out for 305 hp, I'd like to see what dyno that came off of.

You didn't do anything wrong. The "Reply" text link should actually say "Quote" or "Reply with quote" ... all one has to do to reply is scroll down to the text box. The mistake is understandable...

Of course your gunnna hear what the dyno/engine builder wants you to hear for horsepower. I believe that was the only race that that 305 engine had made it green to checker as well???? BTW.....if you would happen to go to a dyno its not all about H.P...........torque is a big advantage. Anyway good luck in the "Many Races In Many States" season for 2011!!

The problem with the 305 class is no one organisation or track has got the car car count to tech to kick the cheaters out. Everyone is always fighting over b.s. rules like dry sump, or gear, belt or timing chain, but the simple truth is most guys have a lightweight crank, cheated heads, or big bore, and nobody will say anything because the class isn't strong enough to D.Q. cars.

You are correct here Kevin. Another big advantage in Dyno work is that you get it tuned right, or as close as you can get it. HP is not the almighty factor here, it is just one that folks like to throw around. That is why I was joking around about how trustworthy racers and HP #'s are.
Good luck in 2011.

Racesaver is the best answer for keeping it legal imo sealed by tech man at build time. Thats why i bought 1 and gonna run some this year. Only reason i would want to dyno my motors is to get fuel settings.

They let "sealed" motors run a Jackson, MN last year against the 305's with limited sucsess. They were supposed to have a RPM chip in them, but there was no tech done on them. They needed the car count, so they did nothing! Sealed motors will never look, as racers always come up with a way around the rules.
