It's time at the Chili Bowl to raise the purse , many cars , many fans who travel so far .

The prestige is nice , but teams need the funds to race , so MR HAHN let's increase the purse , I'll contribute how about you .

Everyone knows the purse before they enter and the pits are filled with close to 300 cars and packed grandstands each night why should Mr. Hahn change anything? Plus there is nothing wrong with a promoter making money on a event as I am sure none of us works for free. I am sure the costs involved in putting on such an event are pretty staggering compared to your weekly race track.

People have been saying this for years but the race keeps getting well over 200 cars each year. But I too don't think it's asking much for a increase in the purse. As much money as Lucas puts into racing, I think they could very well do it. Heck the way they've performed the last two years, someone should put up a special bonus if anyone can beat the Swindell's.

I would guess you don't own a business. Profit and nothing wrong with that. When the car count drops into to 100's you might see it. Really why should they. As said above, all know what it is.

I compare it too the IMCA Boone Nationals where car counts are amazing for all those divisions are out the roof for five or six days of racing and the payouts are lacking. Everybody knows what the payouts are before hand but the prestige and the honor of competing against the best make this a huge event. Like JAH said, until car counts and crowd support take a hit, don't see anything changing.

I thank everyone for all your comments , some agree , some don't which I expected , but it is A TRUE event . Fans are so loyal and can't wait to take in a race before the regular season starts , and of course Mr. Hahn knows that ,as this is why he attracts so many fans and drivers for the prestige of winning the Chili Bowl . It is ashame that the fans don't receive prizes or money as well for supporting this event , even though it only holds 16,000 fans . More giveaways and money should be something fans should receive as well from promoters , but then I don't consider Mr Hahn that good of a promoter , but I know some will disagree with me on that point .

Just my two cents, leave it just like it is, most of these teams would come even if it didnt pay, the true racers would anyway, proven fact..... the shoot out pays for the rent & the bowl is all profit for Emmitt... The city of Tulsa gets all of the concessions..... He makes money but so does a lot of others that are on the pay role to get ready for the next year.... Cant wait to get up to Tulsa for five days of racing......

Are you retarded? Now you want fans to receive money for going to a race. Emmett built the Chili Bowl from the ground up by hard work and good promoting. I guess if we compare it against your race......oh, my bad.

Who knows for sure if they make a lot of money or not? I just recently read where Knoxville is barely able to pay their Friday nite $30,000+ purse from ticket sales alone. Apparently been a worry for a couple years. I guess if they could raise the Chili Bowl purse, I would hope they would.

On a side note, just watching the I-70 race video posted here, is there any wonder why sprint car racing is not on tv live. It needs editing, sometimes lots of editing. If it had the stage that say Nascar does, they could pre-empt other shows, but that ain't the case I guess. But I would sure sure like to see it happen. Too many people afraid of a getting a little dirt on their face. I remember the first race at Princeton,MN, must have been 30 to 40 "important" people and their wives, dressed to the nines(suits and white dresses mind you), in the middle of the grandstand. And brother, it got dirty that first nite in Princeton.

Obviously, make that "Knoxville's weekly Saturday nite show". The old "measure once, cut twice" of posting.

well they are pulling a little more revenue this year. the tuesday night tickets went up $17 dollars.

it used to be cheaper as it was the added rookie night when they first had the 5th day. now it cost the same as the other qualifier nights, which makes sense, but at say 10,000 fans that's another $170,000 in revenue.

Maybe we could throw a few bucks a some extra events. I kinda miss the two seater years back. there was some special times most wont forget like when Kevin doty"s son was riding along. That's do some fun stuff like that again.

300 cars and sold out you are right the man needs to work somethings out.

You may not like him but it is hard to say he does not do a good job.

Give back for supporting this event? Never promoted anything right

I have seen good promotion at work , while this is a successful race , it lacks better promotion , I have worked with good promoters in the past , but yes he built it up and I give MR. HAHN my personal accolades for that, but now he is satisfied or status quo . He chooses to keep it as it is , this very common among most promoters once a race or a schedule reaches a certain point . As far is my other comment , I BELIEVE each one of you should receive something in return for your support of racing and not hardly any do that . Creativity is lacking in auto racing , as it is at most tracks including NASCAR to get the returning fan business .

I have never known what the purse is or the breakdown of how much goes to what place - and if anything is paid for the preliminary nights. Reminds me of Gary Wright's comment at the Short Track Nationals a few years back - after winning the Dash for Cash. Something like he had never raced so hard for $100 (or $200) in all of his life.. I did hear (to go along with the 50/50 post) that at least one year the winner of the 50/50 drawing took home a lot more money than the winner of the A on Sat. night. As to promoting - I am always amazed that they advertise at all. After all - it is generally sold out in May. I guess our boon for being supporters is that we get first choice on our seats for the following year. It does cost a lot of money to put these shows on. And I've learned that after the event they have to wash off everything - ceilings to floors. That and the rent and the utilities have to be a lot. However - they have to be making a killing - otherwise they wouldn't keep doing it. I'm just glad it's there. But I did also notice the price increase this year. Everything goes up except for income.

I agree with Carol, I have never seen the CB purse published. Who is to say the purse has not been increased over the years? I bet it pays more now then it did the first year and at 10k to win that is probably one of the top midget payouts each year. Not sure why a FansFan is even worried about the payout as it does not impact him or her.

Racing is not about Racers making any money. Who on earth would ever think that a person could build a Racecar and Race and make a dollar. Tracks paid $1500.00 to win in the 80's and it cost $15.00 to get in the pits, but in 2010 and before the greed set in and there became a Promotors meeting where they can all get together and say, "Pay them $400.00 to win, they will still show up" and we do, it will never change. Until racers get together and form some type of a "Racers Union or something" either pay up or sell out, thats the choices we have. Somebody makes enough money from the Chili Bowl that they dont have to worry about making any money during the regular season at their track, so dont tell me somebodys not making any profit here and cant afford to make any changes.

If it looks like sh!!, smells like sh!!feels like sh!!, it might be sh!!, so you dont have to taste it to see.

Yeah I mean only drawing 280 midgets is really getting stale. What more promotion do you need? The event sells out every year. As a fan, I pay for a ticket. Ya know what I get in return for that? RACING. That's the way this process works. I give you money, you give me a product/service. I don't get anything when I go to a baseball game or a concert, why should racing be different? Why must promoters be crucified whenever they make money? What creativity do you want? I sure as hell don't need a Humpy Wheeler promotion where I get everything but the damn race. Put on a good race and people will be back.

Do you people realize how much money some of the drivers have to spend to RENT their rides @ the chili bowl? There are guys that RENT rides for this event that IF they DON'T WIN on Saturday night, they lose money. And some of you are worried about the purse? Give me a break!
