Was surfing around looking back at past results and I was wondering what ever happened with Matt Folstad? He won the 2004 Jackson nationals and a few races around the upper mid-west but than kinda disappeared.

I'm guessing he probably hung up his helmet.
We fans sometimes wonder why a driver or car owner got out of it reasoning that they were pretty good and won a lot. On the other hand it costs more to race than owners take in to support the race team and everyone involved puts everything else on hold to go racing. I can relate to that even on the small scale that I have been involved in the sport.

I don't think I saw him race again after he rolled out of the park driving that 1h car at Antigo a few years ago. That car was fast, and registered a few quick times up to that point, if I remember correctly.

I live a few miles down the road from Matt. He keeps busy restoring old tractors and other things.

Between the money AND time it takes to race, I'm surprised ANYBODY does it.
