There is a post about UMSS's new class, nonwing sprint car on NMRA message board that someone from UMSS may be cared to reply and help them to learn more about UMSS. Check it out at http://nmra.proboards.com/index.cgi

Thanks,

Greg

kpederson, that is why I encouraged UMSS's people to hear (read) other people's opinion about UMSS's rules on NMRA message board. Maybe it is something that they can look at it and figure it out.

I wish everyone good luck and see you at the races.

the non-wing engine rules look great!Rules like this will bring NEW people into class. This is more or less a super stock or midwest mod engine. While everyone will tell you why this wont work or that cant be done these rules are close to our old limited sprint engine we ran a buffalo river speedway and brainerd.Stay off the half miles and cast cranks and pistons work fine. The hydraulic lifters and stock rockers will limit rpm.I have a 1995 Nygarrd rollerI've been trying to sell for 3years for $1500-I'm going to keep it now.Although $5000 to $9000 dollar engine are avalible, any good swap meet scrounger should be able to put one together for less than $2000.Lets see a $1500 dollar car and a $1500 dollar engine, my biggest expense will be the gas to get there! P.S. oh yea, Ive got to quit burning all my old Hoosier tires in the wood stove!

OLD TOM you hit the nail on the head! The UMSS is building a sprint car fallowing here in the Twin Cities. 3 million people here to try and pull a fan base from. Our intension is not to be dependent on out of town cars that have several hunderd miles to tow, although if they choose to fallow our rules all will be welcome. We have hunderes of "B" mods around that a lot have shown interest in sprint cars but can't afford them. Our intension is to help make this happen with this inexpensive engine package. As always we will not make everyone happy and we are OK with this. I expect 6 to 8 cars this first year and that would be perfect for an exhibition season. As you say most of the guys can get going for less the 8000.00

I found this archived footage of oldtom in his 95' Nygarrd. LOL!!! Saw this on the hoseheads board, maybe a little taste of what we can see next season.

I don't see much of a connection between the non-wing cars down in the Sioux Falls area and the class they're trying to build up here around the Twin Cities. The winged cars get out and travel a little but this non-wing class at least starting out will be unique to the area. They're certainly not a threat to anything they're doing down there around Sioux Falls and if all goes as planned this will result in a bigger market for used cars and parts.

Many of you might not remember North Starr Speedway or the Sprint Car racing we had up here in the 60's and 70's but there were enough cars around to put on a local show. That is the eventual goal because travel isn't going to get any cheaper going forward so successful racing venues of the future will need strong local shows to survive.

Just my two cents worth based on talking to the people involved in this new concept.
