I remember going to the Redwood Falls Nationals several times back in the early 70s. It was the biggest late model shows of the year.

What I was trying to remember a few things that I hoping to clear up...

Anyone remember Jack McCorkell driving a car named Mr 880? I thought perhaps it was a yellow?

Also I remember a couple cars that while late models ,were almost more like modifieds, I thought they even had open fenders on the front? Were Fairmont's rules that open back then? One was a dark blue 70s nova that was always very fast.

I think the local Redwood hot shoe at the time was a driver named Ernie Warner from Wabasso.

Any of this ring a bell to anyone?

Probably would get more response over on the 20/20 Late Model board. That's another local racing message board where most of the Late Model and Modified folks hang out.

This link should get you in there:

You are correct on Ernie Werner. Some others were Dave Knott, Kevin Geer, Brian Nelson, & Duane Ousky. Nelson was one of the first to run a small block engine at Redwood. Geer was just a kid, maybe 16 or so but was fast. I think Bob Shryock showed up a few times too. Darell Lund was alway fast but had lots of bad luck. Also saw Bud Watkins there one year. Don't remember what number Jack had. Ron Zempel was in #770. The Nationals were as good as it got in southern Minnesota.
