Tight Battle for GRP Motorsports Sweet Sixteen Bonus Between Barickman, Richert and Hahn in UMSS

With one final event left for the 2010 UMSS season, the battle for the GRP Motorsports Sweet Sixteen Bonus has really heated up. With the top three positions paying $1,500, $1,000 and $500 respectively, three drivers are locked in a tight battle for the money to be awarded at the UMSS banquet in January. Brad Barickman, Jerry Richert Jr, and current UMSS point leader Cody Hahn will contend for the top three spots during the final UMSS race of the season on Saturday October 2 at the Ogilvie Raceway. The bonus is determined by using each drivers' best 16 point shows during the 2010 UMSS season. Heading into the final race, Brad Barickman holds a slim point lead over Jerry Richert Jr. and Cody Hahn. The current standings are indicated below.

Barickman has thrown out a 190 point score while Richert has discarded a 150 point show. If any of the top three contenders score more points in the final race of the season at Ogilvie, they will be able to replace the bottom score shown above. In order, that would be a 205 point score for Barickman, a 184 point score for Richert, and a 217 point score for Hahn. The maximum score possible for winning a feature race is 250 points while the minimum score for showing up and at least attempting to race is 150 points. There would be numerous scenarios that could play out, but in order for Richert to move to the top spot, Jerry would have to have a net gain of 20 points over Barickman. Cody Hahn would have to gain 39 points on Barickman and 20 points on Richert. Stay tuned for the final chapter during the final event of the 2010 UMSS season at Ogilvie on Saturday October 2.

Cody Hahn on the Verge of Becoming the 2010 UMSS Point Champion

Cody Hahn was impressive in his rookie season last year earning the 2009 GRP Motorsports UMSS Rookie of the Year Award. In his sophmore season behind the wheel of a winged 360 sprint car, Hahn has continued to impress sprint car fans young and old. Hahn only has to show up and attempt to race in the final event of the season in order to become the 2010 UMSS Champion. Hahn raced to his first-career feature win on September 4 at the Mighty Axe Nationals, and he should follow that up with another career accomplishment this Saturday at Ogilvie when the young Minneapolis hot-shoe earns his first championship title.

Sprint car fans, come on out to the Ogilvie Raceway this Saturday and see Cody Hahn earn the championship title! The GRP Motorsports Sweet Sixteen Bonus Award will likely come down to a close battle for the top spot between Brad Barickman and Jerry Richert Jr. Assuming all three drivers are on hand, Hahn could move up to the second place spot but he would not have a shot at the top spot. The GRP Motorsports/BP Trading Company UMSS Rookie of the Year battle will also come down to the final event this Saturday. Ronnie Erickson has an uphill battle facing him, but he still has a shot to overtake Jared Goerges for top rookie honors this season. Racing action is slated to get underway at 5:30 pm with hotlaps. Ogilvie will also be running their weekly super stock, midwest mod, mod 4 and hornet classes with the UMSS sprint cars.

GRP Motorsports Sweet Sixteen UMSS Bonus

Upper Midwest Sprintcar Series (UMSS) A further analysis of the top three reveals that Cody Hahn does not have a shot at the top spot, since the maximum amount of points he could gain on Brad Barickman would be 33 should Cody win the feature race and Brad not better his low score of 205.
Upper Midwest Sprintcar Series (UMSS) In looking at the Jerry Richert Jr and Brad Barickman battle for the top spot in the bonus standings, if Richert finishes 13th (205 points) or better, Barickman must finish at least one position higher than Richert in order to hold on to the top spot. Richert could also overtake Barickman even if Brad wins the feature and Jerry finishes 2nd. If Brad wins the feature, he would shut out Richert and earn the top bonus. Other scenarios could also play out between the two drivers making for a race within the race at Ogilvie on Saturday.
Upper Midwest Sprintcar Series (UMSS) Cody Hahn could also overtake Jerry Richert Jr for second, although that will be a much more difficult task. Hahn needs to make a net gain of at least 20 points in order to overtake Richert. The maiximum gain Hahn could attain is 33 points if he wins the feature. If Richert finishes 15th (199 points) or better, he can eliminate any chance Cody has to finish second in the bonus standings.
