While racing during his heat race Saturday night at Lone Star Speedway, Todd's car was struck by track debris, traveling underneath the car, punching a hole in the oil pan, bending the bar beneath the floor board destroying the floorboard, pinning Todd's left foot beneath the titanium brake pedal. Todd's car hit the debris so fast it peeled the paint off the bottom of the fuel tank and caused the throttle to stick open. Todd cut off the fuel and engine to stop the car, even as his foot was pinned. The extent of his injuries aren't known but his foot is swollen and he is in a lot of pain. If anybody has a video of this incident please let me know at [email protected]

Thanks,

Janet Evans Webb

Update on Todd Evans injuries --- Todd is fortunate to have his left foot based on the damage inside the cockpit following inspection of the car. It opened up the lower frame rail. We need to find anybody who was at the speedway who saw the debris on the track and can tell us what it was. By damage to the oil pan it appears to have been a brake rotor, possibly left on the track by a previous accident when?

Any help is appreciated.

Was there but did not see what happened. I just saw the #14E stopped on the track. Glad to hear here his injuries were not the worst they could possibly be! God speed.
I'd rather be in Knoxville.

I was there also and dont recal any incidents happening unless it was from someone who tagged turn 1 wall. Glad its not to serious.

Outlaw Warrior,

I appreciate you checking in, a car did smack the wall hard in Todd's heat. Again, the damage points to a brake rotor, nothing else explains it. Nothing broke in Todd's car. It was debris on the track covered by sand and not cleared. Todd went from running full speed, to fully open throttle that wouldn't close after the debris tore through the underneath of the car and the floorboard, tearing through the floorboard, splitting the frame of the car before exiting. Todd's left foot was pinned under the brake pedal, while he shut down the fuel and engine bringing the car to a stop. Thanks to all for sharing concerns and information with our family. We are more than appreciative. God Bless!

Forgot to mention Todd is still having trouble, in pain and in getting around, foot is keeping him immobile. Updates as they are available.

To bad it was debris that had to be covered up. It coudlve been alot worse than what it was in this case, but his quick thinking saved him and the car. Has he gone in to the doctor? Hope its not broke. Get well soon.

Outlaw Warrior, Todd still cannot put weight on his foot, he cannot stand without a crutch, it is still swollen and heavily bruised.

Time is of the essence as to what quality of life Todd will have given the fact he works for himself and does his own labor. The brake rotor debris that destroyed the underneath of the 14E spilit the rail, thus destroying the chassis. The floorboard is destroyed, oil pan, titanium brake pedal, throttle which went wide open after Todd struck the debris, he had to kill the fuel and engine to make the car stop even while he was in unbearable pain while his foot was pinned.

Rescue crews alone couldn't get him out after five to ten minutes, others in the pits stepped in to pull Todd out. The debris because of the frame damage alone destroyed the car. The best it can be is parted out and it was brand new. There is other damage to be determined when and if Todd can go through the rest of the car, including engine to see what else the debris hit. Right now, the car is as is and isn't being touched.

The lesson in this is that tracks need to be super surveyed after each crash especially as many as there were Saturday night, smacks against the turn one wall included, If not, I guess, pit crews from each driver's team during Red flags will have to be allowed to the crash sites to inspect the area on their drivers behalf. It sounds drastic, but there was a fine line between a leg saved and amputation and life and death Saturday night. That haunts our family.

God Bless.
