Am I reading the right thing here. It cost 400 grand to fix the electrical plus another 400 grand to tear the grandstands down but this group wants the city to spend 7 million to fix the streets of bricktown to have the pothole 500.

I suggest that if the City Council approves this "POTHOLE 500" we as a racing community should Boycott, and Pickett the event.
$7 Million dollars spent for a annual race that most likely will go bust after the first year is absurd. Why not take 1/3 of that budget to build a Race Track for our local community.
If I hear of anyone in our Racing Community attending this event, I will personally kick your ass.

Heres something I haven't heard addressed------
The amount of space needed for garage space, tech space, pit areas, spectator areas, parking for DOZENS & DOZENS of 18 wheelers, parking for spectators, etc.
Bricktown area has gotten entirely too crowded already.
Along Reno there are businesses that are VERY VERY close to the street surface that will be part of the race course.
Hope the city is prepared for the legal ramifications that can occur from a car flying into the crowd, the speeds they are talking about & the close proximity to the spectators aren't that safe sounding.
180MPH + Brick town streets + TEMPORARY FENCING sounds safe to you, Cornett ???????????

Well I'm going to watch If i can. I think something like will be good of OKLAHOMA might bring in lots of MONEY. JMO Why don't you find some sponsors and go buy some land and build you a track to race on. Crying on here is not going to get you a track to race on. Put all your anger to finding a peace of land to build on that makes more since to me. Y'all have a town with LOTS of money there Chesapeake, Devon Energy, and much more why don't some of you talk to them and try to get them to help. Not trying to make anyone mad here. Just saying don't take something that could make OKLAHOMA poss a lot of money if it work It could turn into NASCAR coming someday never know. JMO JMO

Just don't understand why everyone is scared of some kind of new racing coming into OKC they did not PROTEST the basketball team, The indoor football team, Hockey team why a racing thing. JUST DON'T MAKE SINCE. Go find you a place to race there are many other tracks that need cars or find a way to raise some money and go build you a track. But that might take to much work its easier to get on here and complain I guess. NOT trying to make anyone mad or PISS you off thats just how i see it. JMO. I don't like to see the HISTORY being tore down my self but to late now. The only thing you can do now is BUILD a new place or support on of the other tracks. AGAIN JMO

Pedal what pisses so many off is the way Cornett treated the racers. I know you are out West and might not understand the entire deal. He acted liked we were not worthy of any type of consideration of maybe saving the Grandstand. His plan was to tear it down and nothing would stop him.
Also, there already was a track there, maybe not as prepy as he would like. Alll that needed to be done was update it. 7 million would do a heck of a job in updating it but the city manager said that the city did not have the money.
All those companies you listed are in bed with Cornett. The City of Okc is almost like a mini mafia. In order for things to get done you have to know someone that knows somone type of thing

Pedal, I like the sports cars, hell I watch them on Speed all the time, but I refuse to even consider attending an OKC grand prix. If you had been displaced from a track that you have raced at for many years, had so many friends at, then you would feel the same way. I now travel 2 hours or more to race every weekend because of what Mick Cornett has done, and I miss the old track and my old friends. Personally, I just want the thing to be a flop so that Mick is put out on the street in disgrace... he deserves far, far worse. I pray for nothing but bad fortune for that man and his family.

Please let me try to explain this felling that most of us have. First of all we are not afraid of bringing in other types of Motor Sports Racing. The Boat races in Brick-town are cool, the "POTHOLE 500" would be cool if the City would have taken some of the Guess-timated revenue and put it towards our local racing facility for upgrades. State Fair Speedway was one of the finest racing facilities in the country and the estimated repairs/upgrades did not warrant the destruction of the facility, it cost the Taxpayers more to tear it down than what the cost of repairs would have been.
We were lied too, and cheated by Big City Government. By them bringing in a annual "Grand Prix" race at the cost of 7 million dollars to be paid back over a 10 year period is a Slap in the face to us.
The City of Phoenix tried this and spent some 15 Million in Taxpayers dollars for a Indy Car Grand Pr through the streets of Downtown Phoenix, They erected garages, paved streets, added barricades and really messed up normal daily business for the Downtown area only for the Promoters to file Bankruptcy after the first year of the Phoenix Grand Prix. After the purpose bilt garages sat empty for 5 years then the Taxpayers of Phoenix had the burden of spending more of there Tax dollars to tear down these special built garage's for re-development.
I can see this happening all over again, the supposed road couse through Bricktown does not offer any burms, or any sweeping curves. The course appears to have 5 Left turns (what we know as Spun out) and one right turn. The course appears to be a backwards, and a up-sidedown "L" and all straght runs.
I am sure this will be a FLOP with the Car Owners and Drivers. We will end up wasting Millions of Taxpayers dollars trying to be a Big League City.
I am sorry, I'm not trying to be negitive. But, Reality and Experience tells me better.

State Fair Speedway was a friend, and a good one to us. It is gone, but its friends remain. They number in the thousands, and a good number will not forget.
OkC was the state mecca for racing, yet it is now on the outside looking in. It's city lines are now surrounded by municipalities that have interests of their own.
SFS was bringing in at least $1 million a year and up(profit), as an existing destination facility. The new venture downtown has odds against it being as overall profitable. From watching the downward spiral of Indy car racing, and the temporary road courses they have had built over the years, and their replacements that came in and milked what was left to have, it is a 'no-brainer'.
Keep this mind - What works in "Long Beach", does not neccessarily work in Middle America. Any Indy car driver will tell you that. Yes, it has been addressed before. Cornett fell for it. You will see.
As for me, I do not wish to eat at the table of a lying liar who lied for self reward. Concrete and asphalt. Taxpayers pay for it all.
