Each
and every week Lunstra/Dobmeier Motorsports begins their race
weekend with the home track of River Cities Speedway in Grand
Forks, ND and each and every weekend, they are always towards the
front. This past Friday was shortened due to rain falling after
the heats, but before the rain Dobmeier started last in the heat
race and charged to the front, winning the heat and setting the
team up for a great night. But the night ended early and the
Speedway will be holding double features next Friday.
“We
really do our homework week in and week out,” says Dobmeier, “Our
team works very hard to be fast everywhere we go, and we had a
great shot to win tonight, but we’ll have to bring that back next
week!”
Going
into Knoxville’s double feature night, Lunstra/Dobmeier Motorsports
felt pretty confident as they have put down some very solid
finishes with 2 wins so far at the famed half-mile of Knoxville
Raceway. “We started the night out qualifying fifth quick only
two tenths behind (Terry) McCarl,” says Dobmeier, “Then we finished
fifth in the heat.”
Dobmeier
lined up fifth for the start of the main event and made it up to
second with about half way through the event. Challenging
Terry one last time with a dive to the bottom through turns one and
two on the last lap, Mark scrubbed too much speed which allowed
Johnny Herrera to slide by putting the Senske and Son Right Choice
Electric #13 back to third.
For
the second feature of the night, the starting lineup was completely
inverted lining up Dobmeier on the inside of the ninth row at
17th. Mark made it up to thirteenth by the time the checkered
flag flew, missing that top ten finish by only three spots.
Huset’s
Speedway is a fast 3/8 mile dirt oval that always brings much
excitement to the fans and the racers. Mark had a night to
remember as he came from seventh in the heat racing his way to the
front of the field and then flipped the Senske & Son Right
Choice Electric #13 down the backstretch when there was no room to
get by the sideways #94 of Zach Zimmerly.
The
team worked hard to get the car ready to rock for the main event
after the heat race altercation, and managed to get the car back in
one piece and ready to race the 25 lap main event. Since Mark
was starting in the back of the pack at 20th, and that
he knew the track was probably going to take rubber, he needed to
make his moves early before the one lane rubber down surface
appeared.
Dobmeier
raced strong, passing ten cars and saving the near disaster night
with another solid finish of 10th.
