The Southern New Mexico Speedway is proud to welcome the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series National Tour back to Las Cruces, New Mexico for the first time since 1997. The ASCS is scheduled to run November 12-13, 2010 and will feature a showdown like no other.

Joining the line up in the City of the Crosses will be the King of the Outlaws….Steve Kinser as he looks to take on the best drivers that the ASCS has to offer. Along with Kinser, it has been rumored that several Outlaw drivers will be making the trip through Las Cruces on the western swing for the ASCS National Tour including possibly Sammy Swindell (how cool would that be if it happens).

More news and info will be posted in the coming months.

I'd like to think that this will show the real difference berween ASCS talent and WoO guys---if they do show up!

Alot of good drivers in the 360s... not the best obviously,, but good none the less.... the funny thing will be when the King takes all the money and the 360 guys complain about how much they have paid him to come and take it,,HA

I would put GW in Steve, Sammy and Doug's category (and I think you'll find that he would too). As I recall, Wolfie thought GW was a better driver than he was.

Are all of them in that category? Of course not, but don't be short-sighted and think that just because someone doesn't drive a 410 for a living that they aren't great drivers.

Given the proper funding / time to gell as a team, I'd think that Shane Stewart, Gary Wright, Tim Crawley, Jason Johnson, etc. could all run very well with the Outlaws, they just don't have the funding or the desire to race 2 nights a week while criss-crossing the country spending more than they can ever pull in (truth hurts).

I saw that Joey Saldana leads the WoO in $$ won @ just under $140,000 for the year, too bad they've probably spent 3 times that much so far with multiple blown engines, travel, paying 3 crew guys, paying for a shop in NC, etc..

I agree that the Outlaws are the premier traveling sanctioning body, but it's not very economical to follow them all year unless someone else is paying the bills.

As long as it's a sprint car on dirt, what's the problem???

Now if he could race at the STN's without getting docked points by the World of Outlaws.

"The more the merrier" comes to mind. Great line by a sprint car driver a while back.

As has been mentioned... Shane Stewart, Jason Johnson, Rilat, Gary Wright, etc. aren't slouches. They win things other than ASCS. They're just plain GOOD.

Finances dictate what they run.

Everyone that drops in a 360 doesn't win automatically when they show up for an ASCS race.

I have absolutely no doubt that with an average motor that the King can win the SNM races.

I will say... it won't be easy.

BTW... haven't been out to Cruces in years but loved my 2 trips to that track. Super racy little place with a cool view of the valley from the stands while the sun is up. Great food in Cruces... nice trip for those wondering about going. Could be a nice car count for those interested in quantity. Kind of a haul for the OK/MS/ARK racers... but not the worst. 2 nt show makes it digestible.

So what kind of race car pulls in a profit? It ain't Sprints of any kind. Late Models cost a ton of money and Mods are the same thing. Hornets? Pure Stocks? Nope, they spend more than they make as well.

Without sponsors there would be no racing because no kind of race car can pay for itself and make a living for driver and crew on it's own merit. At least I have never heard of one.

Steve shouldn't get docked any points for running with ASCS . Last WOO race is the week before Las Cruces. I think the trucking company still sponsors Steve and Kraig.

Nobody said he would get get docked points for Las Cruces, they said "Now if he could run the STN (Short Track Nationals) w/out getting docked" ....The STN is 3 weeks earlier, and the WoO season is still going.

That was my point. The STN's is on an open weekend for the outlaws but the apparent rule is if you race at a track the outlaws do not race at, you'll get docked some points (I don't know how many but I think it's quite a bit). This keeps guys like former champ Jason Meyers and Jason Sides from giving it a go.

I saw Kinser race a 360 once and his response was, "My tow rig has more horsepower than this."

I've been a huge SK fan about all my life. All I can say is, I'm not saying he's going to win? But it will be fun watching him try!!!! The ASCS has a ton of talented drivers from all over the US, not ez pickens for anyone! JMO

If you look closely at both Kinser cars, they both run a MVT logo. It stands for Mesilla Valley Trucking which is based out of Las Cruces. I am not positive, but I think that the owners of MVT also own/promote the track in Las Cruces. If they do not own the track they are deffinitely the top sponsors of the track.

It would seem that this would be Steve saying thank you for helping with the 11K car.
