Wow...couldn't get this site to work!
Hope the Posse folks enjoyed "one of their own" winning tonight.
I was far off. I had "Fast Freddie" for tonight and Hodnett for tomorrow night. Neither did well this evening!

Both time trialed poorly. Rahmer had to use a provisional just to make the "A". Hodnett got 4th in "B", started "A" in 20th, involved in an eight car crash on start. Car wasn't right after that.

Apparently somebody forgot to feed the hamster ....
Racing at Martinsville was pretty follow the leader for the heats tonight ... and except for part of the feature ... only a handful of cars could get a handle on the track - apparently it rained there earlier today?

Phil,
PLEASE, if you were there, fire away with comments about the race and the track conditions.
It is very obvious that you were not there, so explain how you can dismiss the track conditions and lead everyone to beleive that the race sucked, because the race was excellant, and any one of 3 or 4 cars could have won there tonight.
Steve Kinser 25th to 9th? Sammy 8th to 3rd? Top 4 cars under a blanket more than once? Ask Lasoski how crowded it was way up on the high groove when he lost it and flipped hard going for 2nd? Layton and Kraig Kinser exchanging the lead 6 or 8 times? Should I continue????????????
Just wondering, what is your criteria for a good race?
If it would have been anywhere other than Martinsville as you refer to Williams Grove, there would not have been a peep outta ya......... I thought you weren't as petty as the rest of the "I hate the Grove gang", but apparently I was wrong............

Yeah sounds pretty boring to me haha. Please I would love to watch a race like that. I agree with Joel, unless you were there to physically watch the race dont say a word about the track conditions or racing. We have enough negative a$$ clowns in the world we dont need them here.

The Grove looked pretty solid tonight. There was definitely room to move around on the track and lots of passing. I bet the bottom is going to be better tomorrow and Rahmer, Hodnet, or Saldana will take it down.

Wonder if Tyler Walker is rethinking the move to the Keen No. 17 yet? Forty-first fast out of 44 cars in TT, then done after the C-main. Don't see too many of those posts from outside PA anymore saying what a great decision it was to move to the Keen car because it will travel more.

I did! I do not know what it looked like on DV, but I have never found that a sprint car race broadcast compares to being there. Perhaps you will visit The Grove in the future and experience it live. And despite what some might say about it, it is quite awesome!

Also watched on Dirtvision but the only time somebody got passed all night was in the A and you didn't see many of them on the show.
Of the 16 cars that started on the front row from the eight races (4 Heats, C, B, A and Dash) 14 of them finished where they started (either first or second). Lucas Wolfe went from 3rd to 2nd in his heat and Joey came from 6th to 2nd in the A, nothing else changed all night long. For the most part each race looked like a glorified Hot-Lap session, with about 50 yards between them. The only car that looked like he had anything (not counting Kraig who needs to get better at his restarts) for Chad was the Dude and I still couldn't tell what happened to him.
A canon into the crowd wouldn't have hurt many in either the infield, the backstretch stands or Beer Hill, dang! Go FLYERS, Take It Easy....

Yet another opinion from someone who was not there. Save your money and sit on the porch. Or come back to the Grove. You have a seat waiting for you. Or even a spot on the hill.

Threat of rain and being a weekday show the crowd was about what I expected. People here are spoiled, a lot that won't pay $30 to watch a show with just one series running. If the weather were nice tonight I'm sure it would be packed.
Track was too heavy at first, that was the only problem. You needed to run a 16.6 just to make the inversion, the fastest TT lap any of the last 3 weeks hasn't been below 17.0, so that should give you an idea. The fact that heat races didn't have any passing really helped the Outlaws, I didn't think PA had much of a chance after heats, and other than Layton and Stevie they didn't all night.
The racing in the A was pretty good, and Layton definitely took that win from K.Kinser, although I thought the 11k had a good run. I don't remember Kraig ever running that great when he's at the Grove so it was a bit of a surprise. Very small field tonight for PA (41 cars I believe), and a couple big PA names that didn't show. That said, still a stacked enough field, that without provisionals, Steve Kinser and Fred Rahmer are watching the A from the hauler.
The #17 car blows my mind, reminds me of the #20 the past few years with the WoO, but even worse right now. It's one thing not to make an A-main in PA, another altogether to only outrace 4 cars all night and get a slider thrown on you by a 16 year old still getting his feet wet (BTW, great C-Main for Derek Sell, he is definitely starting to pick up speed)
...and Martinsville? I didn't know they ran a foot from the outside wall there?

I think MSPN was about right on with his assessment of qualifying events. In the A, the top 6 or 7 cars were pretty racy, and even when they weren't actually making passes, you could see that they were setting up and moving around to find the fastest groove, which is something that was lacking in previous years. With the Hoosier spec tire, it seemed to always either be single file on the top or single file on the bottom, but with the Goodyear they were able to search for speed all over. So even if the finish order was similar to the start order, there was a lot going on all over the track and that doesn't always get conveyed over a camera with a director dictating what you get to watch. Good race!

The crowd for the May Outlaw races aren't that great anymore, it always seems to have rain in the area and it's not a Memorial Day weekend race anymore, so the crowd is down from the past May swings in the 90s and early 00s. Then there is always the chorus of people who claim it's too expensive, the racing sucks, you can get better racing for $12...etc...
And then every year the Grove is always packed for the July swing and for the Open. It really is like a broken record going back at least 5 yrs, haha.

I purchased the live video and racing in the A was very good. The camera focused mostly on the front runners though. The heats were a yawner like on most 1/2 miles, strung out. The track came in better than I expected after the fast qualifying times.
Madsen seems to find trouble frequently. I noticed Sammy in his post race interview looked like he lost quite a bit of weight, like the Sammy of years ago. He's quite stoked about his Big Game ride.

That's exactly what I've been saying. Other than early last night when the track was the heaviest it's been all year, there has not been a one groove race track all season. The cars can really move around now. The middle laps between Stevie, Saldana, and Lasoski were great. There was probably a ten lap stretch upto the caution on lap 17 when those 3 cars came by in a different order every single lap. I figured when everyone read the run down that didn't see the race, they'd say: "Another front row win" "No passing as usual". Sorry guys, but look at TT, the 16 car invert was covered by .25 seconds, the cars are very close, the drivers are very close...the RACING was very close. Don't read into the fact that the winner didn't come from 20th, they never will at a WoO race at the Grove.

I always try to go to the Outlaw shows and I live 15 minutes from the track...and I still waited until the last minute to decide. $30 is a chuck to spend when there's rain in the area and they were calling for it to hit around 10pm if it was going to, which is basically feature time. A lot of people may still have the memory of last years Summer Nationals when it was $30+ and we didn't see an A-main because it rained before hand, but didn't get a rain check because it was after the B. People in PA aren't as caught up in the outlaws because of the weekly racing. The weather did look great, so I'm sure a lot of people said "why risk a $30 rainout on a Thursday night when I can watch racing tomorrow, Saturday, next week, the next 20 weekends, etc" Plus, not everyone wants to get home at 12-1am when the alarm clock is going off at 5-6am. Don't worry, as was mentioned above, come July and National Open time, it will be standing room only.
