During the history of Fairgounds Speedway in OKC (forget the State Fair Speedway crap), there were tons of special events galore that almost always brougth full crowds. Vote which was the best in your opinion.
The All-Star/NCRA Thunder tour always brought a different brand of outlaw sprint racing and was always a treat.
The NCRA/USAC champ dirt car races from 1983-1986 were some of the best one could ask for. I have 1984-1986 on tape and will be featured here on tidbits soon for you to relive.
Any MARCAR promoted WoO race on the half mile at the fairgrounds always brought full crowds.
Then there was the USAC vs CRA sprinters of the mid to late 80's
The SWIMS midget tours always had top names of midget racing at the fairgrounds.
Of course the later years we had the ASCS come to town with great racing.
And most talked about was the NCRA modfiieds and late model shows that were held during the fair that brought over 80 modifieds and 50 late models each year.
If you don't see yours posted, post it here.

Not that anyone on here went to this, but didn't the Fairgrounds have a Nascar race in 1956 or so?? Not saying this was the best ever event, but still an interesting one.

Great job Thriller in finding this bit of history!
Looking at these results is pretty interesting. Twelve car, 200 laps. There were three leaders, with Speedy Thompson leading the first 25 laps. Lee Petty led the most laps (168) but finished 7 laps down. Only 2 cars finished on the lead lap, and no other car finished on the same lap. Jim Pashal won in a Mercury with an average speed of 60.100 mph.
Ralph Moody's Ford darts out of control as Lee Petty passes in his #42 Dodge during the 1956 NASCARĀ Grand National season.

NCRA 410 Sprints running an A feature on the old 1/4 mile when the lights on the 1/2 mile wouldn't stay on.
I remember my uncle from Calif. who was a hardcore CRA-Non-Wing only sprint car fan yelling his head off & loving it.
That much HP on that small a track was one of the greatest A features at SFS, Fairgrounds, whatever you want to call it.
Shane Carson showed the best drivers in the NCRA how to put it around that track .

I loved the Extreme Supernationals. That one b feature that had J.Hughes and K Shryock in it and they bounced off each other 7 to 10 times and changed the lead about that many times also. Got to see a lot of guys I never seen before. The price was great and everything else about it was just as good.

Ah hell Cody it's kinda hard for a open wheel nut like you to appreciate a good modified race lol. I loved it and was pissed off that Lanny could not do one his self or have a modified race as good as that one. I guess I liked it because it was won by Terry Phillips. I have known him since he was a snot nosed kid, following his dad Larry Phillips around another great man behind the wheel of a race car...
Does any body recognise the girl in the picture holding the check? She holds a good steering wheel herself..

I rememeber that show. When the lights went out I thought the night was over. I remember the crowd going crazy going cool these guys are going to race on the 1/4. It was a damm good show.

I really enjoyed those shows as well. This was the first time I was introduced to big time mod racing.
