A small field of 13 cars were still entertaining at Chowchilla on Saturday. After qualifying, two heats produced photo finishes with wins to Zach Zimmerly and Justin Sanders. The A main was 30 laps, apparently straight up off of the heats, and it was very good. Sanders and Zimmerly traded the lead 3 times in the first 10 laps before Zimmerly took over and led until a flat RR on lap 27 ended his bid for the win. Sanders led the last 3 for the victory over Darren Howard in the 21D, (Cody??) Key, Anthony Simone, and Ricky Wright. Good racing, track was well prepared, and many drivers were using that new chassis.
Well, I guess it is a new company, as many were announced as running a "Maximum" chassis.
Someone in the pits said that Darren Howard had not raced in 12 or 13 years. Other drivers on hand included Albert Pombo, Mark Barroso, Mike Monahan, Steve Jaquith, Koen Shaw, Andy Ferris, and Garrett Ishii. Hope I did not miss anyone.
It amazes me that some tracks will promote their event, then do nothing to get the results out to the public.

Nice to see another track run some wing sprint car shows in Cali. I hope they continue to build this in 2010 ... and get increased car counts and fan support. Smart move by working with the promoters and using the rules from Ocean Speedway/GLR series.
I also hear that Santa Maria may have more wing shows in 2010. The more wing racing, the better!
Coming up:
10/21-22: Trophy Cup @ Tulare (CA)
11/5-11/7: Bud Oval Natiionals @ Perris (CA)

Correction.....Eric Humphries was in the 3rd place car. Humphries lives in Chowchilla and has run mostly USAC pavement.

I think that would help improve car counts if you host a GSC, CW or WoO show. Once the drivers race there a few times, maybe they will come back for the 360 shows.
How about a Thursday WoO show before the March Tulare doubleheader? Or maybe a Ocean (Friday) and Chowchilla (Saturday) WoO weekend.

Jim,
Your post got me searching through old notebooks. In 2000, the track as it is now, a third mile, ran its first race with modifieds, etc. on March 25th. On April 1st a NARC race was held with a 30 car field led in qualifying by Steve Kent at 14.535. Brent Kaeding, making a statement as to the poor lighting, qualified with two flashlights taped to his nose wing.
The narrow track was tough to race for the sprints and six of the fastest 10 were in the B main. The A main front row was Mike Faria and Gardner....must be Damion, did not write first name. With all that note taking, I still did not write the main event finish!!
July 2nd, NARC again with 24 cars and Tommy Tarlton fastest at 14.643. Randy Hannagan and Mike Faria were on the front row and I think Hannagan won, he was the last leader I wrote down. This was to have been a series of something like 4 races but attendance was soft and not all the planned races were held.
Ron
