Bishop Sets Fast time and Brings Home Top Ten Finish
Petaluma
Speedway September 23, Myles Bishop and the Velocity Motorsports team rolled
into the pits, of the track, that’s served as a sore spot on the schedule for
the VMS team. With the two previous outings ending with a 10th place
finish in the B main and a hard flip down the front stretch while running 3rd
on July 25th, the orange and black CV Fabricators number 7 was hoping
for a solid night. With newly acquired Crew Chief Vinny Latner, and Owner Steve
Bishop turning the wrenches the goal for the night was a solid top 5 finish for
the Escalon Body and Frame, Pacific Bolt, Stud Welding Products Maxim.
With the
number 70 pill being drawn for qualifying, Myles would be one of the last cars
to hit the track. And hit the track he did, laying down a solid qualifying
effort of 12.527 edging out Mason Moore’s 12.656 for fast time. With heat races
being lined up next, and the track surface continuing to get better as the
night went on, Myles and the team knew they had there work cut out for them
starting 6th in the first heat. But, not to disappoint at the waving
of the green flag Myles stabbed the throttle and diced through the field
entering turn one to pass Brandon Davis, Camron Mendes, and Andy Forsberg by
the exit of turn two. Now running third in a covenant transfer spot to the A
main Myles would follow the 9n of Klint Simpson across the stripes. “Starting 6th
in the heat race I knew I had to make something happen early, I figured
Forsberg and Mendes would be tough to pass, what I didn’t figure is I would
pull it all off in the first two corners.” Bishop excitedly exclaimed after
climbing out of the cockpit.
With
Mike Benson pulling the Number 10 inversion pill, Myles would take his fast
time and line up on the outside of Moore in the 5th row. When the
green flag flew Bishop would settle into 8th until contact with
another car exiting turn two, shot Myles into the infield on the back stretch. As
the crew momentarily held there breathes, Myles would keep the car under power
and straighten her out to re enter the race around 15th. After some
instruction from Vinny and father Steve during the early red flag thrown for
Sean Becker, Myles would restart 15th with new found speed. With laps
winding down in the A main event Bishop steadily moved himself forward to pick
up a 7th place finish in the star studded Civil War field. Following
a drink of water Myles had this to say, “I really have to thank my father and
Vinny for giving me such a great car all night, we struggled a bit in the beginning
of the main, opting to go with a set up more specific for the last ten laps,
but the car came on strong towards the end. I think with another 5 or ten laps
we could have cracked into the top 5 but I can’t complain a bit about the night
we just put together!”
Looking
at the results from Saturday night its easy to see that Myles and the Velocity
Motorsports team had a solid outing. But what was not shown at the track was
the benefit Myles incurred when the number 4 of Stephen Allard opted not to
make the tow to Petaluma Speedway. With Allard forfeiting any points from the
night Bishop leapfrogged over him to move from 5th in the
championship point’s battle to 4th.
On tap
next for Velocity Motorsports will feature a double header to conclude the
Civil War season, first the team will roll into the super competitive Ocean
Speedway on Friday September 23, and than make the tow to the high banks of
Placerville Speedway for the grand finally on September 24.
