The number 56 of the great Carol Lister? Years later it would be Bobby Walker in the number 64.

That one is easy. Shot Hamptons 94.
Next was Doc Garretts 55. Emmett Hahns Oklahoma City Special.
James Eubank's, Paul Haws sponsered red number 2. Seems like he drove it in the '73 season.

James drove the Joe Cox 33 in 1973, he won the last race at the old Tulsa Speedway on October 13 1973 a NCRA show. He drove a red and white #2 in 1974 that a t-type body that was sponsered by a carpet company, The Paul haws cars were after that, they are the last cars on the Tulsa Post on RFTP. One spring Paul rented the Dewey track and had Rick Ferkel come and help set up these cars I do not remember what year, I know a man that used to help James I will call and ask him.
My favorite car the Raymond Cates Ford Deuce driven by Harold in '69, I used to love to sit in turn 1 and watch him slide into the turn with the Halibrad wheels the left front woul lift about 18 inches in the air. I can stil see it

I dont remember the Car Number or the Drivers name,,,but i know one thing,,,,it was on a DirtTrack somewhere in Missouri,,,Kansas,,or Oklahoma and it did not have any Fenders on it,,,.and it was sometime in the 60s or 70s. When each Race Car had its own personality.....And everybody wondered who built that one.
Win as if you are use to it.And lose as if you enjoyed
it for a change. Its hard to get to the top and alot
harder to stay there.

I remember the drivers as well as those cars and the pit crews. They all had character with nicknames like J.L. "Flash" Nash and his car "Singing 5", Wayne Cox and his car "Little Boy Blew", Jerry Douglas and his car "TheYellow Rose of Texas". Some of the numbers of the cars were: Flying 1, Cyclin 7, Rolling 7, the list goes on and on. Can't forget by best friend and helped pit for Gilbert Hutson, Bobby Wainscott and Eugene Hair, his name is Richard "Cannonball" Radke. Those were fun times.

My dad's cars
and as much as I was and still consider myself an Edmunds guy, the Suchy 76 from the 76-77 era is tied with the candy pearl version of the Tiajuana Taxi.

78-79 season, White # 18 Stanton of Bob Ewell and #88 orange with flames driven by Dave Frusher in 79 won NCRA Championship. Heck always wanted flames like that on my sprinter but pretty pricey to get that done. But it sure looked good back then

That sounds right I have not looked at my old programs or yearbooks but the nae crew sound right and I remember James Roberts around and wherever he was Howie was. i lived on the West side of Tulsa and James and his family lived there, James was a brother in law to Melvin Jerrigan at the time and they put that car together in Melvyn's garage. a friend of mine painted and helped on the car and I went over there a couple of times. I think it was a Nance frame that James and crew hung the body on. David will like this they had a colour picture of Dale's 67 and used it for a guide.
Ray
PS Melvyn Jerrigan was the builder and owner of the two Bill "T" record cars, #44&45 and was Ray Crawfords first super owner

In Kansas we had this farmer that flew planes. In the #54 from Jetmore, KS how about a hand for "The Flying Farmer" Davey Ross. I think the introduction changed has the years went by and which track you were at, it could have been Davey, David or Dave.
I'm not sure when the nickname came along, but he is still winning, "The Kansas Tornado" Jon Johnson from Utica, KS.
Then there was "Fast" Fred Hembree" from Ness City, KS

I remember Dave Ross him and Herb Copland had a great race at the 69 Hutch Race. They were side by side for laps and back and forth...Ross won it at the line by about 2 foot. For some reason they shortened that race to 35 laps when it was to be 50 laps. . Some of the guys were upset because they put fuel in for 50 laps and not 35.
I remember now that name the Flying Farmer. Nicknames added alot of flavor to racing for the fans.
Didnt Harold Leep have a name Skinny Boy Leep back in the 50s and 60s.I was making a list of Nicknames ans was trying to get them right.
.
I was looking at the time trails for that 69 Hutch race and it was the fastest times at Hutch and i dont think they better them times untill the mid 70s.
#1 Jackie Howerton 24.42 I think it was the Del Torance Car ..That was a new track record.
#8 Herb Copeland 24.52 Issac Trucking ,car
#20 Harold Leep 24.71 Ray Cates car
#37 Jack Belk 24.74 Al Weiland
#11 Aron Madden 25.02 Nance house car
#54 David Ross 25.05 Edmonds car but i dont know who owned it.
I remember this race well my Dad Jack Belk started 2nd row outside and Madden in the #11 slide up and hit him spinning him out in turn one on the first lap. Dad set there waiting for a Red Flag it never came . With the leaders coming down the front shut. Dad took off and got going about 10 cars ahead of Howerton and Copeland. Hopeing there would be a Yellow Flag,,it never came the race went flag to flag. Dad was able to get to the rear of the field before they could catch him. Dad finshed 10th and the leaders were Lapping about the 12th place. car.
The next year the Johnson purchased the #11 from Nance and Dad drove it at Tulsa ,that was the #88.. 69 seem to be a fast year at alot of the tracks. Tim
Win as if you are use to it.And lose as if you enjoyed
it for a change. Its hard to get to the top and alot
harder to stay there.

In 1969 there was a Tv commericial by Avis rent a car about they were second to Hertz and that they try harder. Emmit Hahn did not win a feature that year but ran 2nd several times so he was called "AVIS" until he won a feature. Emmitt is not his real name, I went to school with his sister Beverly and found his real name, I will not print it because he does not like it but if anybody guess's it I will confirm it.
