Anaheim Ca. (September 15, 2009) – Mike Walker and Bruce Crower set out to build a Midget that would be very competitive and economical back in 2003. More then two years of planning and engineering occurred until the #05 Honda Midget took to the track with Bruce’s Grand Daughter Ashley Walker at the wheel in 2005. Shortly after the Honda Midget and Ashley’s debut to the 2006 Chili Bowl, veteran driver Greg Bragg took over the drivers seat and raced it to a couple of wins and many top fives.Owner Mike Walker pressed the pause button on his race team for just over a year in 2008 to focus on his business. In April 2009 the #05 Honda Midget was back on the track again with 16-year-old Jake Swanson in the drivers seat. Jake has enjoyed years of success winning numerous races and Championships in Quarter Midgets, Karts, and Focus Midgets. He has had the privilege to drive for some of the industries greatest such as Steve Lewis (Nine Racing Quarter Midget Honda 120 car), Wally Pankratz (#8 Edmunds Focus Midget) and the Jeff Schankerman (#88 Stealth Focus Midget).Jake has worked very hard earn the trust, respect, and support with family, friends and corporations to help him get to his ultimate goal, to be a full time professional racecar driver. Jake is one step closer now with his new partnership with Honda Performance Development, Inc. (HPD).HPD is Honda's racing company within North America and is a wholly owned subsidiary of American Honda Motor Co., Inc. Founded in 1993, HPD is the technical operations center for Honda's and Acura's high-performance racing programs. HPD is the single engine supplier and the brains behind Honda's and Acura's world-famous racing engines, from IndyCar® to the American LeMans® Series (ALMS), and are now providing parts and services for Swanson Motorsports Team for the #05 Midget. Jake Swanson is excited to have Honda Racing’s support.Having HPD, Crower and Mike Walker putting together new engines for the #05 Goodwine Glass, Lucas Oil, K&N Filters, Orange County Tank Testing, Oakley, Mothers Polish Ego Tactics, One Day Signs, SoCal Performance midget will make for a very powerful winning combination. “I can’t wait to see what Cower and Honda’s engineers can do to give me more power.I’m sure the engineers will be able to get USAC to give us more CI on the 2.0 so that Honda will be more equal to the competition. I know Bruce and the Honda representatives will get it worked out and I can’t wait.”Says Jake Swanson. “It is truly an honor for me and my entire Swanson Motorsports team to be able to compete in the USAC Western States Midget Series and have Honda Racing’s support.” Jake will compete in the rest of the Western States Dirt Midget Series for 2009 and kick off his 2010 season at the famous Chili Bowl in Oklahoma.Check in on Jake’s team website and personal website to get the latest news and info.
