Man, there is hardly anybody here today. Last night, there were probably 15,000 in the grandstands. They'll be lucky to have half that tonight (if they race).
The 'ole gray mare ain't what see used to be...
Might be my last trip to the Nationals. The thrill is gone.

i couldn't believe the amount of people pouring out of the track last night. We had to head home for lack of $ and sure many others did too.

Last time they had to run the C, B & A on Sunday most fans did not come back. More likely due to money, vaca time, distance to travel to return to work monday, etc. rather than lack of intrest or the thrill being gone. I'll be there next year! If you didn't get a thrill at this years race you are not much of a race fan and may as well stay home!

WHATEVER!
When planning a trip to Knoxville, always plan on the possibility of rain screwing things up...don't plan on going home Sunday or you'll miss the RACE!

Of course that is the perfect solution. So all of you that don't have unlimited vacation and money stay home. That would be great for the sport.

Wow.
Cappy tells the racers that if they don't like what Knoxville has planned for 2010, they should just not come. Now, if someone who pays money to come to Knoxville, spends money on tickets, camping, food, ect. in the local economy thinks things have become stale and questions the value of his expenditure, then he's not a fan and should stay home, Anyone who can't swing the money or vacation time for an extra couple of days should just stay home, too. Maybe, there are many people who have been taking that advice the last few years, based on declining ticket sales and overall interest.
2010 might well become the 50x4 Nationals...50 years, 50 laps, 50 cars.and 50% of capacity in the grandstand.
Arrogance and Entitlement have been the downfall of many great things throughout history. Perhaps the Knoxville Nationals will soon be added to the scap pile, lest they wake up and listen.

Just my 2 cents... all tracks with 3 day shows are going to see a decline in attendance in this economy.

I applaud Cappy and crew for telling the drivers what the rules will be a year in advance and for standing up to pressure from teams to include a fuel stop in 2010. I agree, if you don't like it don't come! This really only affects the Saturday A main and I am sure that any smaller team will gladly find a tank big enough and de-tune the engine just enough (or push off in current configuration and gamble on a mid-race caution to pit for fuel) if they are fortunate enough to make the big dance.
If more promoters and sanctioning bodies had the cajones to stand up to pressure, the sport would be in much better shape right now.

The ole gray mare is the best looking girl on the block last time I looked around.
In 2005 we had a great turnout on Sunday night. So was 1997 when Blaney won. Sure the numbers were down from what a normal Saturday would be, but it's nothing catastropic like you're making it out to be. I think everyone will be shocked tonight again at the amount of people who do show up. You negative trash talkers need to use your real names and have some bite behind your bark.

big difference in many sunday night shows, they were complete shows, and had no rain forecasted, with just a B and the A, rain still looking possible, deep ruts with water standing on track at 11AM been debating all day to stick around or drive home

I had to pull out this morning as well. I have business obligations on Monday morning that could not be changed.
This is only the 2nd time I have missed seeing the finale. As I was filling up with gas at the Iowa 80 truck stop, a guy and his wife spotted my sprint car t-shirt and ask me if I was coming from Knoxville. I told him yes and ask him if he was heading west and had time to make side trip. I offered him my tickets and he gladly accepted the opportunity to visit the Meca of Sprint Car racing. They were on their way to Denver and were not in a hurry to get there. If anything good from this, I introduced 2 new fresh faces to Knoxville and who knows, they might even decide to come back again next year.

Fuel Stops are for NASCAR! Bolt on a 33 or 35 gallon fuel tank and let the drivers deal with it! What's next, Starters?

Another bootlicker posing as a media member by writing an internet blog so they can get in free to the races and press lucheon/conferences.Of course you have to kiss butt so I wouldn't take anything you say too seriously. You have about as much credibility as MSNBC's coverage of everything Obama.
I wish there was someone in the media that would give an un-biased point of view on Knoxville, but then again, they all seem to be Knoxville PR people, either working for the track or paid by someone the track supports through advertising dollars.
I was there in '97 and '05. About 50% of the fans came back. That's not the problem. There were only about 15,000 there last night and the place was just more than half-full overall on prelim nights.THAT'S the problem. Better find a way to fix that (and don't blame the economy because it's a trend over several years) or there will be truly bleak years ahead.
Just another example of Arrogance and Entitlement taking hold and ruining what used to be a great event.
