Dave is no longer a young guy at the beginning of his career. It is naive to believe that all guys will come back to their racing roots for some idealistic reason. This went on for years in USAC when it was a stepping stone to Indy cars. Almost all the guys who got to Indy cars never came back to sprints or midgets even on a semi-regular basis. Many often spoke openly wanting to get away from short track racing, run many fewer races and make more money. Lastly, remember the guys on top in all forms of racing are professionals i.e.; there to make a living. They may have started for different reasons, but in the end for most on top of their games it becomes a money driven business.
