CODY COLLECTS FROM 12TH AT WILLIAMS GROVE
MECHANICSBURG, PA -- Cody Darrah and his crew chief Steve Suchy proved a couple of points in winning the 25-lap sprint car feature Friday night at Williams Grove Speedway. They proved that they can make a sprint car work on a smooth, slick race track. And they proved that a driver really can win from the 12th starting spot at the Grove. Steve Buckwalter took the early lead with Rick Lafferty in tow. While Buckwalter paced the field, Darrah was quickly moving through traffic. Darrah was fifth on lap five and moved into third three tours later. Lafferty took the lead from Buckwalter on lap ten, and Darrah moved into the runnerup spot the next time around. Lafferty kept Darrah at bay until lap 23 when the teenager from Red Lion drove by with an inside move exiting turn four. Darrah pulled away during the final two laps to score his third career victory at Williams Grove and second of the season. He earned $3530 for his performance including lap money and a $500 bonus for drivers who start in positions 7-12 and win the race. Lafferty finished second and earned $1940 in his best effort of the season. Dave Ely was third, Doug Esh fourth , Fred Rahmer fifth and Jim Siegel sixth. Daryn Pittman came from 16th to seventh. Former champion Lance Dewease earned the Coliseum Hard Charger Award by driving from 22nd to 8th in his first start after being sidelined by a back injury for the past six weeks. Sutliff Auto Group point leader Todd Shaffer and Mike Erdley completed the top ten. Heats for the 26 sprint cars in competition were claimed by Doug Dodson, Buckwalter and Erdley. Brian Montieth won the consolation race. In the limited sprint feature former sportsman champion Rich Eichelberger scored his first victory in the 358 division after starting on the pole and leading all 20 laps. Steve Fannasy was second followed by Nicole Bower, Billy Johns and Cory Haas. Pat Cannon, Eichelberger, Fannasy and Bower won heats for the 33 limiteds in the pit area. The consolation race was won by Scott Geesey.
