Forney, Texas-
Russell Shoulders has come up with what looks like an old CAE sprinter. Story goes it was built in 1962, driven through '64 with Jay Lyle, Eddie Leavitt, and Bill Utz at one point. A high point resto is on the palate, so if anybody has any direction for these guys to look, help out please.

Brian,...It is all CAE. I built one from CAE blueprints for the 64 season with spring front, CAE front axle & spring with cross torsion rear. I put Bill Utz's phone number on here about a week ago on the parts for sale & wanted. He had a Trostle roller advertized in National Speed Sport News. He may have pictures of it. I think there is also a picture of a CAE built about the same by Wes Farrand in KC. It has been restored by John & Elmer Layne is very nice. If I can find it, I'll bring it forward. I think Curt Grogan put the picture on here & hopefully he will see this & send it.....Luther

When dealing with this site sometimes, a 'drool guard' is a good idea.

Thanks Curt, I knew you had the pictures. Brian, the CAE in Texas can look like this one. I think it is important to get the profile right on these CAE cars to look good. Mine set to high. There were some nice ones around Lloyd Beckman drove one out of Nebraska that looked good & now this black #3 is the best looking one I have seen....Scotty, I'll find out about "Tortoise" & let you know....Luther
You guys know you don't have to chrome everything. When I was racing, cadium plating was as common as chrome. The reason was in IMCA, (I think USAC & others) if you was in a wreck, they would require new magniflux papers on the steering parts. You could magniflux the cadium plated parts but had to replace the chrome parts. That is the reason for a lot of cadium plated spindles, steering arms, tie rods, steering arms & related parts.

From E-bah a year ago, brand new never run. I think it was from the inventory of the Tamales brothers in CA.

I was excited to see the black #3 restored by John and Elmer Layne. They have to be some of the best at restoration. I know for sure with this car because my dad co-owned it with Wes Farrand and it is exactly as I remember it. They wanted chrome headers but could not afford it, hence the white headers. It did run with a bolt on chrome roll cage similar to old sprinter above, but also had the single roll cage as shown. This car was sponsored by Don Kahan Chevrolet in Lee's Summit at one time. I believe it had the one lap qualifying record at (the old Lakeside) or Riverside at one time. As one working on a restoration, I can appreciate the work and detail that went into this restoration. I know they also restored the Greg Weld roadster and Dunseth Chevy...equally as well done. These cars are all a work of art, not just a race car. Well done.

Here's a shot of the 3 car at Olympic in 72, it's # was 83 as it was in the 70's and early 80's owned and driven by Bob Mills then.
