RC Whitwell Takes the Fenders Off for His ASCS Sprint Car Debut

Tucson, Arizona (May 27th, 2009) – The Arizona clay will be flying once again when the American Sprint Car Series takes to USA Raceway, Arizona's premiere short track, this Saturday night. With three races in the books and three different winners, RC Whitwell will jump to the Sprint Car ranks with high hopes and ambitions.

Whitwell, who has dominated The Ump West Modified Division and has also shown signs of the same with The SWDRA Late Models, will trade in his fenders for a wing sprint car and take on defending ASCS Southwest champion Rick Ziehl of Las Cruces, NM.

A winner of one series feature last year, Ziehl has once again utilized consistency to move out front with a pair of third-place finishes and a pair of eighth-place finishes. Zeihl has risen to the top of the point charts in the early portion of his quest for back-to-back titles.

Ziehl is just ten points ahead of Peoria's Ben Gregg, who collected eight Southwest wins last year, with Buckeye's "Chargin'" Charles Davis, Jr., just another two points back in third as he adapts to the winged ranks. Davis picked off his second wingless ASCS Canyon Region win this past weekend with a $2,500 score in Sunday's Buddy Taylor Memorial at Hollywood Hills Speedway.

Peoria's John Gaston, who snared his first career win on May 2, enters Saturday's action ranked fourth, just 20 points out of the lead. Yuma's Mike Martin rounds out the current top five, with the balance of the top ten including Ronnie Clark (Tucson), Joshua Hodges (Tijeras, NM), Derrik Ortega (Albuquerque, NM), Cody Cambensy (Tucson) and Daniel Hutto (Tucson).

The super fast ASCS sprint cars will headline the show along with X Mods, AMA Modlites and Dwarf Cars. General admission tickets will go on sale at 5pm for only $12, racing will begin promptly at 7pm.

Season Passes are on sale for only $199 and $149 for Seniors, Students and Military. Suite Access Passes which allow race fans the opportunity to enjoy the races from USA Raceway's VIP Suite are also on sale for only $349.

USA Raceway, Arizona's premier dirt track, is located east of Tucson off I-10 exit 268, then 1.6 miles south on Craycroft Road, which turns into Los Reales. For more information please, contact the track at 520-574-8515 or additional information regarding USA Raceway can be found at www.usaraceway.net
