Well it's been a long time coming,

I took off in the middle of the night with a truck and an old race car project 2 years ago looking to get to Wichita Falls for the Lloyd Ruby Overpass dedication. I hoped to display my truck and get some pictures of what was going on, maybe even, juuuuussssttt maybe, another old supermodified. I had no idea what I was in for.

Thanks Aunt Evelyn, I'm certain Bill and Maggie had something to do with this.

Lloyd Ruby is not just a name, or the memory of a simple quiet spoken man who has done it all worth doing in the American version of this sport we call racing.

He is an institution, a trailblazer even in his physical absence. To remember him, his times, accomplishments, leads to remembering Hambone Harrell, Kenny Miles,Tony Bettenhausen, Bill Myers, Lindsey Hopkins. It also leads to talking about good times, and making new ones.

Looking around at the faces at the table, in the P-2 Club, his shop, Wichita Falls Racers Reunion etc, he often wondered(with humility you can count on) what would happen if he were no longer there to hold court. "Would it all just fade away into something else? Would all these friends go into their own directions and lose this common thread they so mant times sought refuge in from the outside world"? A name brought the people to the table, BUT THE PEOPLE IS WHAT IT WAS ALL ABOUT ALL ALONG.

Like a cowboy, the horses you rode only lasted a few years, the actual view from a mountaintop only lasted a few minutes. The memories aquired, the stories told, and the mix of personalities formed a small community within a community.

Common sense told the man there were not too many years left in the mason jar. He simply gave us a quiet unspoken message---

CARRY ON

A few cars expected, more will be coming. The people they bring with them. Come on out and make your own story. Be certain to have fun, that's the rule on these grounds.

There's one just across the border on I-44. I have a better idea though- I'll cut a slot in the dash on my car, and evertime you feel like dropping in some money, just do it and pull the clutch lever!LOL

Security is one our main selling points. I will be with the cars Saturday night. I don't sleep much and don't ask if I'm carrying. Just buy me coffee on the way in Sunday morning.
