Anybody else catch this press release from the WoO yesterday?
This year's event at the Osborn, Mo., track will move from its originally scheduled date in the fall to June 26, creating an exciting weekend featuring the high-banked U.S. 36 bullring on a Friday night followed Saturday by the series' second stop of the season to famed high-speed half-mile Knoxville Raceway in Iowa on June 27.
Man this really sucks as I was going to be coming to Knoxville for both nights, but now thats in question since its a one day show now. Anybody know why the switch was made?

I like bull ring tracks, and the 26th is my Birthday, so they gave me a race for my birthday.

Big J if at all possible still go for both nights. US36 is a cool track. I dont recall how many hours it was from k'ville but it was an easy drive, other than i took a few backroads and had to pass a few horse and buggy combos.
Ok i looked it up for yah siox falls to us36 5 hours

Knoxville has really let their fans down with the lack of WoO and ASCS National tour races on their schedule for the past few seasons. Outside of the nationals they have waved the white flag of surrender since the Iowa Speedway opened. Gone are the days of having 2 WoO in April 2 in June one in July ,the nats and sometimes one in late september. I realize the Maytag closing has had a negative effect on the area but Knoxville should be a regional attraction. Brian Stickel works very hard and cares about the sport but he is at the mercy of the old foggies on the fair board. Most of whom sell their free nationals tickets and pocket the money and couldn't give a crap about sprint cars.
More weight, more regulation, more similarity in the
cars.... that will ensure plenty of thrills for years
to come. Only the most average talent behind the
wheel will be needed with such awesome equipment on
the track!

Knoxville Raceway has let itself down with a lack of promotion over the last several years.

You are right i work in DesMoines from time to time an there are tickets for the Nationals around you can buy. I also think that that area is in alittle worse shape than some other areas. I work in 9 different Citys and its worse there than some others.
I also think that it is getting harded for some tracks to do 2 day races because the fans cant aford it . Alot of the race fans go to there weekly races. Tracks cant make it on the extra fans as good as they did before. Racers that race at a weekly show might miss for the Nationals but they wont miss for 3 or 4 WOO events there. As hard as it is to get Motels in the Knoxville area makes ot harder to make it a cheap race to go to,you got more travel in that race just running back and forth to the motel with a one night race you can always drive back home with out a nights motel cost.
Win as if you are use to it.And lose as if you enjoyed
it for a change. Its hard to get to the top and alot
harder to stay there.

No, they are still having the other races at Knoxville AS WELL.
If you go to the schedule on WoO.com, it still shows the May 2 race.
So now they are going to have a race May 2, June 27, and then August 12-15 is Nationals.

Two day shows are great, but the not near as many people come for the Fri. show. Kville lost money for 6 years on the Fri. show before they axed it.

2 WoO shows and the nats does not constitute "Sprint Car Capital of the world" Eldora has 5 WoO races Williams Grove has 7 even River Cities has 2 races in gdf'ing Grand Forks, ND I think its great Knoxville has weekly 410's but how many car owners has it bankrupted because of the cost of making horsepower to win there. Knoxville has the best dirt track facilities in the US but the fans are fickle and won't support big time 360 racing, midgets, non wings etc. The fair board only looks at the bottom line,is unwilling to take ANY risks and the fan base is aging. They used to have a 2 night All Stars 1200 lb nats type event paying 10k to win thats gone. Little by little they are taking the meat out of the season. As far as the point of the fri nite WoO races losing money well so what the nationals pays the bill for the entire year. Do you think the bars, resturants, hotels and gas stations in marion county might make a few bucks by having fans for an extra night. I guess my semi-buzzed point is nothing is guaranteed but failure by not trying. You have 25,000 seats, a campground next door and a community that opens its door to racers and fans, what more can you ask for. I urge the people of marion county to hold the members of the fairboard accountable for what is slowly happening there.

C'mon Savage, they brought in the crappy WoO Late Models and drew about 35 fans. They lost an absolute boatload of money on that deal. They may lose on a Friday, but I would be curious to see if not having Friday has much impact on a Saturday show. Its tough to drive down from the Twin Cities just for a Saturday deal, and US 36 requires time off.
What should be done is replace this show with a high paying local show that can be built up to help local racers, much like they do in PA. Knoxville continues to give very little opportunity to be a "professional" local because you don't race enough to generate sponsors, there is little to no marketing, and your only opportunites to make good cash are the Nationals and being in the top 3 in points.
It is no wonder that the best drivers from Knoxville continue to look for other rides and series because 20 nights of racing does not cut it.

2010 will be the 50th year for the Nationals at Knoxville. I went to the first ones there it started as a Super Mod race. Them cars were something to look at.
That might be another good topic ,should it be a sanctioned WOO race or should it be a Open type show for maybe a new type of race Car. Kinda like maybe what Sammy did to his car at the Chilli Bowl.I bet we see more of them styles in the near future.
Wow in 2060 they just might have the first Huver cars with a 100 foot elavation limit.I could just see them making someone do a fly throught like in Nascar for going over the 100 foot limit. I really dont want that to happen.
But what will Race Cares look like in 50 years.
