NOT COOL! Just got a call from hubby saying the Turkey Night races were cancelled after hot laps and track owner will NOT give pit pass money back. He upped the pit passes for car and driver to $50 yesterday to pork them as bad as he could and then pulled this number. It was a tick under a riot when the drivers found this out.
He said he's rescheduling. Really? Is he serious? This time of year???
Anyone who wrote a check to pay for pit passes - stop payment on it. I wish we had done it ourselves.
There were 26 midgets that signed in and who knows how many sprints and mods. This guy raked it in. He's a dirty theif and I hope this puts his worthless butt under for screwing over the racers. Hope he can sleep at night. He needs to find another way to pay for his Christmas presents.

And why were the races cancelled? Why did he schedule races this time of the year? Even if he was able to have a good car count, were there enough butts in the stands to justify? What if those purchasing pit passes can't make the makeup date? If I were among those buying pit passes, I believe I would find where he lives and camp out until he pays up.

Why in the heck would you put on a race at this time of the year? Whats the chances of having good weather, maybe 1 year out of 10.I love sprint cars as much as anyone, but when you go to watch a race you are doing it to enjoy it.It's hard to enjoy it if your freezing your ass off.

Heck yeah this is true - why would I lie about this? I'm sure when these racers get home and log on, they'll be all sorts of anger on here. Believe me, I thought this was stupid to schedule too. The last thing I told my husband when he left was "It's stupid to go to this race" So he has a few "I told you so's" coming when he gets in the door. But we only lost fuel for a 3 hour tow and a $50 pit pass - I feel bad for the ones that were coming from Texas and further. Guys that just wanted another chance to race before settled in for a long winter. This will leave a bad taste in everyone's mouth. I'd say boycotting that SOB and his track is the best thing that could happen. Racing is struggling enough with the bad economy without someone like this theif scalping 35 grand off drivers tonight. After he blows through that money, he'll be wanting cars to come race again and hopefully they'll tell him to stick it like our team will.

I was there, and yes they did say no refunds as the would be good for a spring race, or any regular race next year. I have lived not too far away from there for the last 13 years and all but the last two have been much better weather, hell thursday was sunny and 60, the temps were not bad just a dam misting rain, crowd was pretty good and car counts great, I hope all feeling get mended cause this could become a great event, buy the way I did see 6 police cars on the way to the track when we were leaving hope it does not blow up real big

If you call the races while people are at the track and say "no refunds" then you better expect there to be problems. I know of at least one driver from OKC who was there and made that trip and might not make it back. Are the money spent for pit passes and tickets going to be kept in the promoters pocket? I have never liked the issue of "no refunds" and no reasoning can convince me otherwise.

Not trying to argue with you Lake, but you know Mo. weather-I'm north of you,and it was warm here Thurs. also, but right now it is snowing, everything but the roads are white-the end of Nov. is not a real good time to put on a race in Mo.

How about this too - got this from a very reliable source - the owner has "rain insurance" he can claim on too - so just how much is that jerk going to make off this "race" compared to how many drivers lost their butt trying to support this track?

Not trying to stick up for the guy, but in your first post, you didn't even say it rained. Was it posted at the gate no refunds? And just because he had rain insurance, doesn't mean he's going to collect.

I had thought about making the 4 hour drive up there to watch, glad I decided not to.
I'd say if they refused to give refunds, contact the Missouri Attorney Generals Office, many a year ago I went to a race at a Fayetteville AR track, the race was cancelled before they really ever got started, they refused to give refunds, never mind the fact they had increased the admission prices, and wouldn't honor the admission price they advertised in numerous racing publications for the event, I filed a complaint with Arkansas Attorney General. office, got a refund a week or so later in mail, by the way, that track is no longer in existance.

I would have to say that I agree after driving 2 hours and burning $150 worth of diesel in the truck we find out (unannounced before hand) that the car would now have to pay an additional $50. I was not happy about it. However thats part of racing and I let it go we all know that this sport cost money, sometimes lots of it, so I got over it and payed my $50 to race. We then set in the rain and dirtyed our cars packing the racetrack so that we could RACE. Unfortuantly mother nature saw things going differently and would not coorperate. When the race was then cancelled I assumed this would be like any other race in the country where if you do not get heat races in, then you recieve a refund on your pit pass and entry fee, so I proceeded to the pit gate to get in line (with everyone else) who was apparently thinking the same, only to find out that they had no intentions at all of giving us a refund. Like I said this is a SPORT and most of us relize that it cost money, But this is not about money, its about general principal! We are often refered to as a "racing community" and thats how we like it, we're friends and neighbors that participate in a sport together and Im not sure about anyone else, but tonight was not how I like seeing friends and neighbors in my "community" treated. I felt we were all taken advantage of by not being notified of the $50 car entry fee ahead of time and then not being refunded our money when the show was not a sucess. What saddenes me even more is that I see this race forever being tarished because of the greed of a track owner. After spending several years building this race up so that it is now paying a decent purse and having an excellent car count (there was literally no where to park in the pits) that because of one persons greed that many of these cars including mine will no longer be attending this race or any race held at this track in the future. There is always a big struggle between the track promotors and drivers about purse and pricing, Its sort of a give and take relationship, tonight at springfield raceway was a BIG TAKE and I just hope that the promotor realizes what hes doing and withdraws his previous statements and simply does the RIGHT thing for our "community"!

Good post. What was the pit pass fee? I don't see it posted on the site. I can't imagine them not refunding the entry fee unless they were rescheduling the race for later this season.

Yea it was a bunch of B.S. this guy is lucky he didnt have any trouble, i was surprised to see as many people walk out of that place without bothering to stop and ask for their money back. He charged each car $50 and then he charged each person entering the pits $35, so every driver had to pay AT LEAST $85 just to get in there and watch the rain and snow come down then he made more money off of the crew members.
I made sure before we left today to see if there were any changes on the website and there were none. Did anybody know about the $50 cover charge?
It just amazes me that this guy can basically steal about $35,000 from people and go home and sleep. I know for sure that next time this guy promotes a race that i will NOT be there.

Yes it was in Springfield Mo. and that worthless so called owner promoters name is Doug Bland and he has a partner that is just as spineless as him. Im pretty sure of his name but not positive but will do some research into it since he supposedly is a chassis builder and i would hate to drop that name and it not be right but trust me as soon as i figure it out i will let you know. These 2 are spineless i do know this much seeing how they had 2 girls in the pit shack having to deal with all the angry people after they finally called the race. Those 2 jackasses were no where to be found. There is plenty more to this story and i will let everyone in on it later as its 5:35 in the morning and i just got back to Okc and am extremely tired. Is this the same Doug Bland that was going to take over and rule the dirt late model world with the Xtreme Dirt Car Series 4 or 5 years ago??

I called Jerry Hoffman (the other "spineless" partner) to explain our situation that we could not make it down there again and he was rude and said no way were there going to be any refunds. They are worthless.
From what I can see, they had EIGHT of the 26 midgets go out for 3/4 of a lap under a green for hot laps which was at 1/4 throttle because the track was so awful and they were sliding everywhere. They brought out the mods for a 20 second green lap (on an 11 second track) and called it good. That way they could justify keeping our money because hey - "we got some racing in and we have to pay expenses" I call bullshit.
If they wanted to be decent about it - they should at least pay the teams back 1/2 of the $85 they porked them for. Not to mention some had to rent transponders they never even got on the track with and didn't get their money back.
They raked in at least $35,000 last night - are you telling me that it cost that much? They didn't even have to run lights for their "hot laps"! It didn't even cost them 1/4 of that - so man up Springfield - give back some of the money.
Springfield news station is planning to do a story on this heist. That will be interesting. :o)
