New Updates: Teams & Fan Guide To Cowtown Sprint Nationals

10/1/08, DarinShort.com. October 10-11 will mark the largest total track purse in Cowtown Speedway history with the running of the Cowtown Sprint Nationals. The event kicks off four weekends of monster sized sprint car events, all within a budget-friendly distance of each other.

Cowtown Sprint Nationals. This is the inaugural event, and it’s a sanctioned national point race for the American Sprint Cars on Tour (ASCoT). Driver pre-entries are coming in from all over the region and they will all be slugging it out in a 30-lap, 22-car, $2,000 to win feature race on Friday October 10th and a giant $5,000 to win, 35-lap, 24-car championship feature on October 11th.

Drivers. Although there is no entry fee for sprint cars at the Cowtown Sprint Nationals, many teams have taken the time to pre-enter at the track website. It is anticipated that there will be around 50 sprint teams, and as of 10/1/08 here are the drivers pre-entered:

Texas: Jason Johnson, Michael Lang, Kevin Ramey, George White, Kathryne Minter, Chad Wilson, Marvin Lough, Larry Howery, Cy Conditt, Robert Byrom, Claud Estes, Kolt Walker, Justin Melton, Brian Parker. Oklahoma: Gary Taylor, Aaron Berryhill, Joe Wood Jr., Zach Chappell, Kenneth Walker, Nick Smith. Nebraska: Jack Dover. Missouri: Brian Brown. Drivers including Gary Wright (TX) , GarryLee Maier (KS), Wayne Johnson (OK), Eric Baldaccini (TX) and Travis Rilat (TX) are also ASCoT drivers that will be in the field. As this is the finale for the ASCS Sooner region as well, Oklahoma drivers including Brian McClelland, Matt Covington and Sherman Davis can also be expected. We will update the pre-entry list as new drivers sign up.

Topless 100. And as an added bonus, the wildly popular 8th annual Topless 100 will join the sprint car action and will take place following the sprint car feature event.

Two-day passes. Fans can save $10 by purchasing their tickets online at the track website through October 8, as 2-day adult grandstand pass will cost just $35. Or, tickets will be available at the gate on race night for $20 on Friday and $25 on Saturday. Youth and child tickets will remain at just $5 and $2 on each night. Visit
www.CowtownSpeedway.com for complete details, including the event flyer.

Fan Fest. Race fans of all ages holding event tickets for the October 11 Cowtown Sprint Nationals will be allowed into the pit area from 3pm until 4:45pm. Fans will be able to check out the cars in all four of the race divisions, take pictures, visit with the teams, purchase team apparel & merchandise; plus get a behind the scenes look before the action takes place on the track.

Travel Tips. For flight options,
www.Travelocity.com is a great source of information After a quick check of their ‘Last Minute Packages’ today, the following deals were available, which prices below include: flights, hotel rooms in Ft. Worth area and a rental car; leaving Oct. 10 and returning Oct 12. Prices are based on 2 people traveling, but as you can see, there are still great deals out there:

damn thats a great update darin. it really is. lots of info you dont usually get with other tracks or races.

you got a Oklahoma City Metro resident wanting to skip the hometrack winter nationals for it - also still havent used those six flags season passes for 2008 yet. hey how many topless mods they usually get - or expect this year? is that the only other class running?

great info - keep up the damn fine work - here and on the cowtown forum too. u should put it on the Oklahoma Hoseheads forum.

considering the OKC race is gonna be like a weekly show - actually less cars because of other races goin on in the state - but still its basically a weekly show with a 20-25$ price tag on it - some other folks might get the dander up to make the trip too. other questions too but i'll just e-mail em.

guess now would be a good time to convince my family they need to use their six flags season passes too. may not be hard - my mom loves watching gary wright race -

Thanks for your comments OKC. This event is really coming together great.

Couple of notes since yesterday's update:

- A lot of drivers still aren't aware of our request to pre-register. So when this update came out, we received another 6 entries from LA, NE, TX and OK.

-So right now we have 36 confirmed sprint entries. I think you can safely expect to see 50. But my prediction a couple of months ago is the same as it is today: 54. Yesterday, I went through the drivers that have yet to enter, and it's easily another 15-25.

-Don't forget that next Wednesday the 2-day pass online promotion will end. The advance pass will save $10, and it is a great bargain for a 2-day race with a $75,000 total purse.

-In addition to the topless modifieds (typically there are 40-50), the popular winged 600's will be racing for $1,000/win as well as limited modifieds - also running topless.

But again, the sprint feature will be run before the modifieds on Saturday.

(edited for spelling...)

Here are the new official pre-entries in the sprint cars, as of Friday afternoon:

Mike Peters (KS), Michael Brown (TX), Aaron Reutzel (TX), JP Bailey (OK), Charlie Brown (TX), Brad Welborn (TX), John Ricketts (TX) and Terry Monroe (LA) have also entered.

We're right at 40 presently, and still on track for a solid 50+ car sprint field.

And looking at the current weather forecast: all systems are GO for the Cowtown Sprint Nationals, with high's in the 80's with 10-20% chance precip each day.

Reminders:

-The last day to save $10 on race tickets is Wednesday, Oct 8.
-Don't miss Fan Fest from 3:30-4:45pm on Saturday before the race.

What time did it end last night. I left after the Sprint feature at 11:30. I can only imagine how long it took to run the modified 100 laps since it took 20 minutes to run the 20 lap qualifier.

The Topless 100 took about 35 minutes including a quick fuel stop, and then there was the 40 lap limited modifieds and the 30 lap winged 600's. The final checkered flag threw at 1AM.

But with 6 heats and 3 B's of sprints and a 35 lap feature, plus roughly 110 cars in the other 3 classes, I think the night went great. Plus we skipped intermission, thanks to all who attended!

Hope to see you at the November Sprint Shootout on the 7th and 8th!

It was a good night of racing. I was there to see the sprints and they were good. Any race where the winner leads only 1/4 of a lap is a good race.

It is a little frustrating when the modified guys spin and wait for the yellow instead of trying to get going right away, but it is part of "the show".

Thank you for bringing ASCS to Ft Worth. I will be there in November.
