David , Been reading on the Hoseheads site that your company has the Sprint Car world on edge with you all getting the WoO deal for the future. Carter/Maxwell was even mentioned in the thread about pics of OKC cars running Goodyears.
Will you all approach folks in this area , Speedways that run Sprint Cars , OCRS (heard their deal with Amer. Racer is up at the end of this year) ,Etc. to get them to go to Goodyear.
I like the Spec. tire rule , seems to be a good deal to me , just wish they only had one Spec. tire and not several and all the tracks and sanctioning bodies would get all on the same tire and not have to purchase several different brands to run with different sanctions and tracks.
Sure would save owners like me some loot.

Yes my dad had the nance 112 built in 1980 for my brother he raced it for about 1 year and then Larry Dewell drove it.Won the 82 okc ncra finished up the 82 season and moved from SW kansa to norman okla .In 83 Darrell Jennings drove the car some. Then it was sold to Ronnie York in norman ok.After that it stayed local I think but that was a long time ago.If somebody needs pics of either The 112 jelly car,12N nance,or the 112 1980 nance car i have a bunch of pics and a lot of stories.Alan Beutler

Glad to here from you , we got a car that might be the 112 ,the car right now is not were i or he can take a picture. He has several older cars and he keeps them were nobody can even get close to it or get an angle were you can take a good picture form any kind of distance.I got some good pics of the 112 but there are a few things we cant say for sure if it is this car or not.
The way people steal stuff now days you dont want them out were people can see them or they wont quit coming around...I am going to talk to him and see if we can get it out to were we can take a picture or to because you and buswacker might be able to help ID it.And there are others here that can help.
The guy has other cars and restores them it is in good hands. Last time i went to the car i had to take a big knife and a club incase the criders atacked. We been up in the air on this car for a year or to. He has had it 5 or 6 years . I will do what i can we both work and travel alot so see what i can get done. Tim
Win as if you are use to it.And lose as if you enjoyed
it for a change. Its hard to get to the top and alot
harder to stay there.

JD,
I've been out last couple weeks SCCA R/O's & KC NASCAR race, I have heard rumors for a couple weeks from Akron, I'll be there tomorrow for a meeting, will post what I find out. To answer 1 question that you posed, alot of people in that HH forum are taking this deal out of context, this deal will not directly affect local racing in this area very soon, CM in '08 would have only serviced 6 WOO events, GDYR will still build the current line-up of tires that we use in local racing now. As for the RR/LR spec tire it is a whole differant package, GDYR does very much want to get back into the 360 type local market on RR and yes I have contacted 4 or 5 groups about that but nothing has came of it yet it is a work in progress.

Probably Chuck Comer. He has a wrecker service in the Joplin area and a used car lot I think. He still races too.

Heck with what I heard yesterday David if that Map 3 tax deal passes in Nov. that SFS will be done within 2 years and I think this time it will happen and no more delays , folks like the Mayor and money guys in OKC see money to be made with the Convention Center and all the other things they want to build a the site and you know that will not help local racing at all in this state.
This tire deal really gets folks riled up , not sure why that is , all of em cost money , not sure if it is just loyalty or those tire deals they all talk about that some will be losing out on or just what it is , but sure does make for some interesting reading.

i was taking pictures in turn 3 when that happened. we went over to the wreck and the thing i remember most about the car is that one frame rail was about 2 feet higher at the engine than it should have been....Chuck Sterling said "come on!" and motioned toward Johnson and we became part of that mob. i will never forget when we walked out from behind the stage the whole crowd went nuts and you could hear people yelling for Jon to kill him and other things. i have a picture of Jon with his finger in Voglers face.....that was truly unforgettable
|
Picture of Vogler's handy work. Anybody remember how much Vogler got booed after winning the Chili Bowl in Jan 87? Don't think the fans forgot what he had done to Jon. Jon also ran a midget that year and drove from the C feature to the A.
Anybody with any pictures of Jon from the NCRA days please let me know.

Bushwacker,,,,,,the 112 you are talking about it sounds like you may know things about that car. We got a car that we been trying to ID. It could be this car. Is there anything else about that car you remember that could help use say that it is it.Or do you remember anything about that car that could help use Id it. It has 112 on it but it is really faded badly But the car is in pretty good shape other wise....it is fixable. If there is anything you can remember about it,, sure would like to know so i can past the info along to the guy that has it.The car was picked up in the Ok City to Enid area.
Maybe you remember the color of the frame rails or maybe the colors in the cockpit or something that could help use out.
We have pretty much checked out all the 112 cars that ran back then but we cant say it is not this car yet. The number looks right and the style of Nance it is is right. If you can think of anything.

I've been toying with an idea. Would any other Nance car owners out there be interested in sharing their numbers with each other? I've been jotting down a few and feel it would be great to have a registry of where, who has them and those that still exist. I realize some folks may not want anyone to know their actual number, (Uncle Tom might learn what year of car you really have) and if so that's fine. A year or two back I asked Marvell if she still had the records of each number, who bought them new and she thought at that time she did.........somewhere.
Just a thought.

I bought a Nance sprint chasis in 93 and it did not have any numbers on it. I talked to Carol Nance and he said it was 1 in 5 cars they produced. One was the Nance house car that had a removable roll cage. He said they kept 1, sold 1 complete to a buyer from Dallas, 2 as kits and he did not remember who got the 5th one. He said the kits were not numbered. A picture of it is shown in the message with my cars. It was sent in by Kurt Grogan. It is blue in the pictue. I restored it to where it was ready for paint, then sold it to a fellow i8n Swartz Creek, MI....Luther

So, the serial number issue for Nance most likely started in the 70's or 80's.

LUTHER MENTIONED 93. I THINK HE MEANT 73 THATS WHEN NANCE STARTED SPRINTS, I DON'T KNOW FOR CERTAIN THE YEAR NANCE STARTED SER #'S I JUST GOT OFF THE PHONE WITH MRS. NANCE ANE SHE THOUGHT IT WAS ABOUT 1980/1981 WHEN THEY STARTED TO S.N FRAMES, SO ANY FRAME OUT THERE WITHOUT A S/N WAS FAB BEFORE THAT TIME ..... SHE STILL HAS THE 1 S/T SPRINRT THEY BUILT, !!!!!

Brian, I'm sorry, maybe I did not make this clear. The car was a 71 or 72 & produced the same time the Nance house car (black #1 with a removable roll cage. Nance made 5 kits & sold 3 as complete cars with numbers but the 2 sold in kit form were not numbered. The car I bought was one of the kits put together by Bill Dickey in Slater, Missouri. So, they did start numbering them by the time these were produced,......Luther

To All,
Been out working pretty heavy past few weeks and haven't had a chance to post in a while. I thought Nance pretty well S/N there cars from the start but with as many complete cars and kits that they built I'm sure it was highly possible that a few got out with out S/N.
Very saddened to here about Larry Nailon passing, I was not able to attend the funneral. Larry was an innovator deluxe and built some pretty trick cars in his day. I remember sitting in those bleacher's at OKC watching Evard drive the #12's that Larry built they won a few championships and alot of A-FEA. Larry could do it all he could build the motor(along with his brother Wayne) do the chassis work, do the tires etc. He was just well rounded. I remember my first real meeting with Larry on a professional level had to be in late '74 if memory serves me right. I was working at Parsons at the time and when I came into work DP told me there will be some guys here today there real peticular so if they say anything to you tell them you have been working on race cars 10 yrs, well about 4:30PM Larry and Howdy Young walk in and start talking to DP, I was fitting some tubing for the under carraige on a single rail frame, the phone rang after a while and when DP answered Larry easied over to where I was working and said how's it going, man I was about ready to piss my pants Larry was 1 of those God's I idolized as a kid and I wasn't much past that then. I responded ok just trying to get this car finished, sure enough he says how long you been doing this, I responded going on 10 yrs, he laughed and said no I mean fitting that tubing to that frame rail, I turned red and he got a good laugh out of it. They did bring there car over the next day and DP put that thrid bar setup on the front of it and we built some nerf bars and a front bumber for it. In later years Larry would ask me did I ever get that tubing fit!!!!
Well I understand that SFS my finally be on it's last leg, I guess there is several upgrades Electrical and ADA etc. that are required and it's bound to cost a TON of money, I don't think the Fairboard or OKC will spend that kind of money. I know that tearing it down isn't going to be cheap either with the asbestos insulation and other EPA hazards but the local Goverenment has a better chance to get it done with out all of the headache's that a promotor or Association would have.
I'm going to catch some flak over this next thing but so be it. With the current promotor I don't know why the fairboard or city would be interested in doing anything anyway. I do believe when Lanny took the track over several years ago it saved the track from going away then but the way it's been ran the last 3-4 yrs I don't see how they could want to save it now. The racer's at SFS the past 2 yrs for sure are the die-hards and the fans that come out every friday night are the last of the die-hards also!!!!! The racing is pretty good among the cars left but the LACK of PROMOTION and the INCONSISTANT RULES ENFORCEMENT, VERBAL ABUSE, IRRATIONAL BEHAVIOR ETC!!!!! all falls back on 1 guy, I'm not going to beat up his offical's, they have no support, I'm not going to beat up on the racer's we're already beat up. Some people will blame it on the economy and that is a part of it but 50% fall's right on Lanny, the other 50% falls on the racer's MYSELF included. Along time ago I developed a big distrust in the ORA and I have not supported them in years as far as particapation in membership or meetings didn't need them as the promotor always had the final say. Back in the days that Bud ran the races as the promotor he did work with the ORA alot until late '73 and early '74 then they had a falling out which brought the strike on, the track fumbled along until Hill took over and he worked with the ORA well until that damn boat race, since then we really haven't had a real promotor. I'm not beating Bud or Bruce up they were just hired to run it. When Lanny took over it breathed alittle life back into it but now it's down just like it was back then. If the ORA had more power and that power is in membership it might have been able to push Lanny to do better but the ORA is no where the power house it was back in the 70's or 80's and as I said MYSELF included the racer's have let that power go away, just the other day I was talking to Bobby Kraft and we talked about how the membership used to be 500/600+ back in those days I don't know if any of it can be saved now!!!!
Sorry For The Rant!!

The closing of Manzanita this year, and now this at our doorstep. The proposed facility they are wanting to intrude on the grounds is projected to be $280 million from what I understood.
The crazy part is, the people of OKC are going to pay a penny at a time to kill out the unique character of the city. Progress used to be 'replacing unique with unique'..................These towns are all starting to look alike now.
Any idea when the MAPS 3 vote is?

David, You will hear no flak from me on this subject , everything you said is pretty much how I see it and ya hit it on the bullseye.
Your right Lanny did save it several years ago but has managed to drive it right back in the ground , really can't see the car count being any good next year in any class ,Someone gets a petition signed by 17 of the 23 Super Sprint guys at OKC that night to switch to ASCS rules and he says NO WAY, well why not meet with the guys and discuss it this winter instead of waiting till next season and letting the car count dwindle to next to nothing. Where is that proactive position?
Your correct on the ORA , it is nothing more than a glorified banquet committee for Lanny , have NO SAY at all with what rules , etc. are done at SFS, I am a member for this year and have already re-uped for next but it was not my wanting, it was others who said Pt. fund money could be good to join for and guess I will get some this winter at the banquet and really it is the only reason to join.
Was not a member or went to any meetings back in the 70's with the 500 to 600 folks you talked about being members, but can remember as late as the late 80's when you still had 200 or so members and well last Wed. night went to the monthly meeting and probably at most 15 people attended the meeting.
Lanny no longer has to promote to make it go , he has that thing called the Chili Bowl in Jan. and that is his money maker and since that has taken off about 10 years after it got going in 87 , seems to me since 97 Lanny has just quit really trying to promote his other tracks , does not need to with the money made in Jan. and that allows him to just see what happens each race season , if the tracks do well ,then good , if not , then Oh Well.
Was at Cowtown in Ft. Worth , Tx. for the Sprint show down there this past weekend and that was a promotion deal at it's best , really see it in the car count and even in the crowd on a crappy weather weekend , heard at OKC , if they had 500 people in the grandstands would have been pushing it.
Just sad what it has come to and along with a tough economy , makes ya wonder what is going to happen racing with SFS down the road.

35 years ago we had the best weekly racing in the countrty here with Tulsa, OKC, Wichita and Muskoge. It all started downhill when the Tulsa track was moved from the fairgrounds and has been and has been downhill ever since. I do not know the cure for this but it is very sad and I guess we can not go back but it sure would be nice to see Emmitt on the p chasing Harold on the cushion with Evard and Ray Crawford right behind them. That was the best of times.
