Who in the world has time or resources to compile a list like this? The U.S. list alone had hundreds of entries and was pretty mind boggling. It seemed to be current and ongoing as Scott Kalitta was listed. I noticed one thing-just because you didn't find a driver on one list doesn't mean that driver was on another. Arnold Horner wasn't in the main list, but was in the "This Month" section. Really interesting, but almost bizarre.

What a surprise ! Jack Belk drove for me in late 1964 & all of 1965. I was the promoter at Topeka Fairgrounds (1971, 72, 73 & 74) when he was killed. The surprise is that he was born in England. I knew him well & still in contact with his youngest son. I sure did not know that.

It is really interesting, I guess I didn't get to the real workings of the site and maybe the names I looked up were on another list. Like you say Mike where do people get the time. I pretty much cut way back (almost nothing) on this site because of time. I tell you it took years to get just what I have, not to mention all of the old ramblings I used to do almost daily. I haven't updated my Memorial section in a couple of years. I was hoping the Memorial section on this forum would take its place. I think I will ad a big link on all the Memorial Pages to that site. Oklahoma City.

Maybe some day I'll get a fire burning again and maybe even have some more t-shirts made up. I been thinking about decals, there cheaper.

Another couple of minutes and it is amazing.

Don Lytle 06.Aug.1961 - driver - National Jalopy Races
He was killed at Hutchinson

Doug Hjermstad 10.Aug.1976 - driver - [semi-feature]

He was killed at Belleville in a sprint car, before what is now called the Belleville Midgets Nationals race.

Chet Hamby, 25.Aug.1961

Because of this site Chet's daughter receive photos, stories etc when she asked me for info. You viewers came through and she sure was happy to learn more about her dad.

Viewers have said I have a very good memorial section. This site is the best kept secret in racing, I'll bet.

Okay the aknowledgement section is long too, and you can send in stories to go along with names.

Warren, I think of all the time you've spent on this site over the last 8 years, but really you've got a small localized niche.Take your site then multiply it times the different kinds of racing (cars, motorcycles, etc.) then multiply that times the number of countries represented, all eras, and all the drivers, spectators, officials, mechanics (even one from 1911), etc., and it's quite an extensive list. But no photographs, that's what sets yours apart from most others.I just glanced at the site for a few minutes, just the U. S., and couldn't get the real workings of it either, but I think I'm going to try and find a moderator or the site owner and find out how they do it.

It is a surprise Jack Belk was born in England. The more you bring up Jack and the more I read about him in "High Plains Thunder" and "Big Car Thunder", the more I realize how much he did for the sport in the day. I remember Jack from my teenage years in Tulsa.

Kind of like Jay Woodside. All I ever remember Jay from was seeing him in Wichita when I was a kid and at the nationals in Hutchinson. And these two guys were two of the best in those days. Too bad there isn't more history on guys like these two. I'd like to hear more Jack Belk stories if you have them to relate, Mr. Brewer.. And if you think about it, what a great name for a race car driver...Jack Belk!

Warren, Doug Hjermstad was killed in the 11 th car I built. Dave Hoska in Minneapolis has the car now & it is restored. You have several pictures on your site. It is on the "Luther Brewer's race cars" link on this page.

Luther, I remember you saying that on another thread quite a while back.

Your contribution to the forum and with your photos is so much appreciated!!!!

I can't understand if you can do it why some of the others can't. I've heard from hundreds and hundreds of the old timers via e-mail, but they just don't get into the forum or don't want to bother with it. Your input is just the greatest and I look forward to reading your comments.

I plan on putting your photos on the regular site with Sprints From The 60's & 70's. I need to purchase a program used to upload photos to the web site.

Back to Jack Belk. He & his wife have 3 children. Kathy, Randy & Tim. I heard recently that Kathy's husband is in top management (Possibly Pres) of Swift Trucking. I'm sure all of you have seen the semis, all white with the name Swift in blue script on the drivers door & small print, Phoenix ....Chattanooga . I think of Jack everytime I see one on the road & there is a lot of them ! Jack was also a good cook. Jack also had an ambition to race in NASCAR. Sparky Carver told me he & Jack went to the Daytona 500 in the 60s. Sparky was a HUGH fan of Jacks & living in Topeka, he became a fan of my car when Jack drove for me. Sparky started coming down in the pits after the races. That is how I became aquainted with Sparky.
