SIOUX FALLS, SD (January 21, 2007) Racing season draws closer as the new year brings a few changes and much anticipated excitement. Let's begin.

ASCS Adds More Events:

ASCS Northern Plains drivers will make their first ever visit to Murray County Speedway in Slayton, MN on Saturday July 28th. Also, the ASCS Northern Plains is excited to be a part of the "Billy Anderson Memorial" event which will be held at Cedar Lake Speedway in New Richmond, WI on Saturday July 14th.

ASCS Midwest drivers will once again compete on the very fast US 36 Raceway in Cameron, MO. as the 2007 ASCS Midwest Regional season winds up with it's Championship race there on Friday September 7th. We have more dates in the works so stay tuned.

ASCS Holds Regional Directors Meeting:

Emmett Hahn and Tommy Estes, Jr. invited all ASCS Regional directors down to the Chili Bowl on Friday January 12 for discussions on getting all regions in line with the ASCS National on Tour procedures. Also Brodix Cylinder Heads and Hoosier Tires had representatives on hand to go over some teching issues as well as discussions on the new Hoosier tire that Hoosier has designed for ASCS competition.

BRODIX Cylinder Heads:

Dave Rotter from Brodix went over some issues on teching the ASCS Brodix cylinder heads. It was very informative and well received by the directors in attendance. You will see more done in the area of teching the engines in 2007.

New HOOSIER ASCS Medium 105-16 Tire:

We got our first look at the new HOOSIER 105-16 Medium ASCS right rear tire, which will be in competition in 2007. The new tire utilizes a stiffer side wall, about (2) inches narrower footprint and will durometer about (48) to (50) compared to last years tire, which came in around (40) to (42). Testing has showed that the new tire will unhook the cars a little entering and exiting the corners which should provide more exciting racing. As of now, HOOSIER is not producing any of these "newer" style tires in the Hard compound because of the large inventory of the older Hard compound tires still in existence. Following is our time table for race teams to use up any of the old tires they may still have:

ASCS National on Tour Events: The "new" HOOSIER 105-16 medium tire will be required May 1, 2007 at all ASCS National on Tour events.

ASCS Northern Plains & Midwest Regional Events: Beginning July 1, 2007 the new HOOSIER 105-16 right rear tire will be required at all ASCS Northern Plains & Midwest regional events. The older HOOSIER (Hard compound) will still be legal thru-out 2007.

2007 ASCS Cylinder Head Rule:

ASCS National on Tour Events: All engines, Chevy, Ford and Mopar must utilize the Brodix ASCS legal cylinder heads.

ASCS Northern Plains & Midwest Region Events:

Chevrolet – All non-ASCS legal heads, cast or aluminum, must be (23) degree valve angle only. All non-ASCS legal heads, cast or aluminum, must utilize the ASCS intake gasket.

Any competitor utilizing the USRA Brodix Spec head must still use the ASCS intake gasket.

The (2.10) inch sleeve option WILL NOT BE ALLOWED in 2007 & beyond.

(ASCS intake gaskets are available only from ASCS at a cost of $25. Call or e-mail me if you need a set.)

Ford / Mopar – All non-ASCS legal heads, cast or aluminum, must be sleeved down to a maximum of (2.10) inches. (No ASCS intake gaskets available for Ford or Mopar engines)

ASCS Procedure Updates:

The top (6) drivers in total points after the heat races will run a (5) lap dash. The finish of the dash will determine the A feature starting positions (1) thru (6). Drivers will draw for dash starting line-up with the highest point driver drawing first.

A driver who enters the work area and does not make it back out before the green flag waves, may still re-enter the race on another caution as long as the field does not complete a lap. Once a driver goes (1) lap down to the field, he CAN NOT re-enter the race.

Racing season is not far away. Stay tuned for more updates as the 2007 ASCS season approaches…CZ

Chuck,

Are you saying we can't use the old medium RR in Florida?

The ASCS website says from May 1st forward.

Thanks for any help

CZ, the new tire is actually a 105/16 (not 104/16 like stated above). The old tire was a 105/18. That's the only difference in the sidewall markings between the two.

Also, I thought there was a grace period for using up old tires at the National Series races as well. Please double check that if you can.

Thanks!
