Rain Washes Out Five NCRA Events

PARK CITY, Kan. (May 26, 2008) - The O'Reilly NCRA Series presented by ICM/Ethanol saw Mother Nature take a sweep in the Memorial Day weekend racing action as five events that were scheduled between the late model and sprint car divisions were washed out.
The O'Reilly/NCRA late models were set to begin their 25th Silver Anniversary season on Friday night at Mid-Nebraska Raceway in Doniphan but consistent rainfall and the forecast for even more heavy rain forced cancellation of the event. No makeup date has been announced.
On Saturday night, heavy rainfall throughout the morning forced officials to cancel the scheduled O'Reilly NCRA sprint cars at 81 Speedway in Park City, Kansas. A makeup date has been tentatively rescheduled for Saturday night, June 7th.
Sunday night saw the O'Reilly/NCRA late models take part in time trials for the 7th Annual "Alphabet Soup," which features combined races with sanctioning bodies MLRA, TORA, SLMRA and WDRL. 67 drivers took part in time trials with three-time and defending series champion Kelly Boen of Henderson, Colorado setting quick time with 2007 series runner-up John Anderson setting fourth quick. After the first heat race was completed, heavy rains moved in and delayed the balance of the program. Despite the efforts of track officials to get the track prepared for racing action, the forecast for more rain forthcoming forced officials to cancel the rest of the evening.
The event has been tentatively rescheduled for Wednesday night, July 2nd and will be the first of four scheduled races to be held during the 4th of July holiday weekend. From there the series heads to Eagle Raceway in Eagle, Nebraska for a Wednesday night event. Then on Friday night, July 4th, the series heads to the Highbanks of Belleville (KS) with a combined event with the NCRA modified division. The late model division will wrap up the week on Saturday night at Enid Speedway Park in Enid, Oklahoma.
Sunday night also saw the scheduled NCRA sprint car series set to compete at WaKeeney Speedway in WaKeeney, Kansas. But scheduled severe weather for the rain-soaked area forced officials to cancel the event. A tentative makeup date is scheduled for Sunday night, June 8th.
Monday night saw the O'Reilly/NCRA late model series set to team with the TORA series at Heartland Park Topeka in Kansas, but rain also canceled this event with no makeup date announced. This all but declared Mother Nature the winner of the NCRA Memorial Day weekend festivities.
The National Championship Racing Association is entering it's 38th season of sanctioning dirt track races, this year in five different states in its sprint car, modified and late model divisions combined. The 2008 race season will see the series' modified division compete for the 11th consecutive year while the sprint cars enter their 19th season. The NCRA late models will be competing for the 25th Silver Anniversary year.
