FAn I heard the other day on the radio that the city either wants to revap the Okc tennis club to a 12,000 seat stadium or build a brand new 12,000 seat tennis stadium.

lol.

man I confess to watching some of the women play - there's a few that are smokin.

12,000 seat tennis stadium - what the hell do they think this is - Wimbledon? sounds costly and somewhat unnecessary - and I don't see where there would be much use except for when the main tennis series comes through. other than that - I don't think high school and college tennis will exactly be a money maker. Did you hear that on the Sports Animal catpup?

My thoughts.

The e-mails were stupid.

David Stern pretty much said OKC is here to stay and Seattle has f...ed itself.

We were planning to do a cruise out of Seattle in '09 but now that city isn't getting any of my money with their reaction toward the situation.

I agree with David. A paved track would be awesome as long as it's USAC sanctioned and we have midgets, sprints and Silver Crown race there. Anyone who has seen the midgets or SC at PIR will agree.

A nice tennis center with great grandstands would be really nice. I actually like tennis. And I wouldn't mind seeing Anna Kournikova in action. She's rather attractive.

I don't think Kournakova plays anymore - a couple of the hot ones I watch are Sharapova and ........ man I'm not sure of the name - but I think its like Krivchenko or something like that - she's from Russia or somewhere in that region. there's a few that are really hot - and besides - they can play just as good as the men.

Bill - I wouldn't cancel a trip up there on that account. I think its fair to say that the folks up there are being "swindled" to a certain degree. when Schulz sold the team to Oklahoma owners - they knew what was going on - the only outcry was from a few hundred ardent supporters. those few hundred stirred the pot enough that - once the e-mails surfaced (which I agree was dumb) - it became symbolic. Where it took the plunge is when local and state leaders got into it. the Schulz guy - who ain't popular up there to begin with - is grandstanding to get more handshakes. A little more complicated with the politicians - but I imagine they are trying to deflect attention from their own short-comings - and like Schulz - they are grandstanding as well. its a distraction from more critical problems that politicians have failed to fix - like the economy. that may not be spot on - but the whole situation on their end in Seattle is grandstanding - and we all know people are sheep - so they are going along with it - for the moment. The more I read about it - the more it seems obvious to me not that they need to let it go. my only thoughts that could be somewhat critical is the behavior and honor of the owners a few years AFTER they are here.

I won;t even get going on a paved racetrack in OKC. suffice it to say that I would bet every dime I have that there will never be a paved racetrack in OKC. I hate to be so negative - well not really b/c I don;t like paved racing - but take a look at gas prices and economy. we'll be lucky to have good dirt track racing here in a few years - and that is something that has base support. Where would something succeed that has NO support and NO base ---- one could say build that base over time - but the economy isn;t exactly providing ripe conditions for local racing. It would have to rely heavily on traveling shows - the same traveling shows that are currently sweating bullets b/c of what the economical problems could very well mean for them. ah crap - my bad - thats going a whole different direction from what the thread started as. probably not a good idea to get to talking politics and economy. I make concerted effort to not foul up this forum with such talk - I use the General Forum for that. wink
