Just a guess, but I'm thinking that with Sanctioning fees, total purse, tow money, advertising costs(you gotta do something to sell tickets), and miscellaneous expenses, you'll probably need between $100k and $125k.
Figure $200k+ for a two night show.....

Tow money is paid by the WoO out of the sanction fee. Sanction fee, I think, is around $24k. Purse is $56,??? for a typical one day. So, 80k there... maybe another 10k in advertising. 90-100k for a one day show.

Besides sanction fee, purse and advertising there is track prep (don't forget the cost of fuel for the grader making how many? laps over 2 - 3 days of track prep), water & light bill, insurance ( for racers & crews) plus liability insurance for spectators and track workers, pay for track help (ticket sellers, concession workers, flagman, ticket takers, announcer, scorers, etc.) cost of printing tickets & pit passes, cleaning grandstand & grounds after the event. Cost of supplying an ambulance or hiring an outside ambulance service for several hours, fire and rescue personnel and equipment and cost of security people. Plus you may need to pay the push truck guys a little for their help. You may also want to consider all the money spent on advertising and track prep for the races that get rained out. That needs to be recouped sometime during the season.
There are probably more expenses that the typical fan does not know about.
Too many fans;
A) over estimate the size of the crowd
B) under estimate the expenses the promoter has to put on a show
and then decide the promoter is lining his pockets with cash and could easily pay a bigger purse or lower ticket prices.

I've heard in the $90,000 range for a one night show so your figures have to be just about right on.

Do this is reverse - estimate your attendance, multiply it by the number of tickets you'll sell(factor in kids/adult admissions into your formula), add in all other cost estimates(insurance, ads, etc.) and you'll have good idea of what you'll spend.
Then decide how much you want to make as a profit - Add it to your costs, divide by the number of estimated ticket sales, then voila! There's your ticket price....or you can choose to break even, male no profit, and just cover your expenses.....
It really doesn't matter how many seats you have - unless you don't have enough room to sell sufficient tickets. regardless of price, to cover all of your costs, and to make a buck....

Are you nuts!! Gas City may be the closest thing to perfect in the sport os sprint car racing. It's a short usually tacky moderately banked bull ring with no walls 1/2 way or better around the track, no wings 1 or two support classes. Not only that but you can park close, stay overnight, a reasonable gate price and darned cheap pre race pit pass. Pardner it don't git no better.

I'd rather see them come back to Bloomington myself. The NST race two years was pretty good despite the track being dry slick. I'll take a second date at Haubstadt in Oct. as well.

Petey - that would pretty much guarantee dry slick conditions!

Gas City sounds a lot like Placerville Speedway here in Northern CA. When Brandon Wimmer raced here last year he said he liked Placerville because it reminded him of the tracks in Indiana including Gas City. I wish the WoO would come to Placerville as well, but I think the track and stands are too small.
Looking forward to the new Golden State King of the
West series schedule!

The cost has not risen too much I guess. In the mid '80s it was $65k for a one day show. That was when Lawton passed on the deal.

Tack on whatever a fourth day would be and now you know why Knoxville isn't a WoO show anymore. It's funny because just six or seven years ago Las Vegas had a three day show, Fargo had a three day show and Calistoga had a three day show. Now two of the tracks don't see the WoO and Fargo has one show. It's all about the Benjamins.

Actually, I believe it's closer to being all about the McKinley's.

I know nothing about it but i was told you can bring stands in on 18 wheelers with hydralics.Supposedly you raise the stands above your own stands.I was told you can seat 2000 for about 1000 dollars. Anybody know anything about this???
