USAC/CRA SPRINT CARS RACING FOR EXTRA MONEY SATURDAY AT PERRIS!

(Perris, CA, August 14, 2018) This Saturday night, August 18th, thousands of extra dollars will be up for grabs when Perris Auto Speedway hosts the annual “California Racers Hall of Fame Night featuring the Amsoil USAC/CRA Sprint Cars, California Lightning Sprint Cars and The PAS Senior & Young Gun Sprints.  Spectator gates will open at 5:00 P.M. with racing at 7:00.

As this piece went to press, more than $9,200.00 has been added to the normal USAC/CRA purse.  The driver who is fastest in qualifying will receive the $500.00.   “Billy Wilkerson Fast Time Award.”  That will be followed up by the “Junior Kurtz Trophy Dash” which carries a purse of $2,000.00.  The winner of the dash will receive $1,000.00, second place will take home $500.00, third will get $300.00 and the fourth-place finisher will earn $200.00.  The winner of each heat race will be paid $300.00 courtesy of Mark Atchison.  The 30-lap main event will include more than $4,000.00 in lap money.  Bill Simpson of racing safety fame has kicked an extra $1,500.00 for the winner of the main event (combined with the normal $2,500 that makes first place worth $4,00.00) and Robert Woodland has donated an extra $500.00 for the driver who finishes second.

If one driver were to be fast qualifier, win the trophy dash, then his heat and lead all 30-laps in the main event, he would potentially take home a minimum of $9,900.00.

“That is quite the payday for one night of racing,” promoter Don Kazarian said.  “The drivers will be racing hard and fierce to take home all this extra money. It will not be a show for the faint of heart. A huge thank you to everyone who donated to the purse and to Chris Holt who every year busts his rear end to get the donations.  Chris also organized the legends from the past who will be in the track sports bar to meet the fans and sign autographs.  I hope all the fans show up with their old programs and photos to get signed. “

Drivers who have indicated that they will be at the autograph session include Mike Spencer, Jimmy Oskie, Eddie Wirth, Brad Noffsinger (flying in from North Carolina), Shane Carson (flying in from Oklahoma), “The Rim Rider” Chuck Gurney, Jeff Heywood, Stan Atherton, John Redican, Jason York, Lonnie Carruthers and more.

The “Junior Kurtz Trophy Dash” will feature a special Speedway Motorcycle style format. The four fastest qualifiers Will contest a series of four, three-lap races.  The drivers will rotate the starting spots in each race, so each driver will start off each position one time.  Each of the races will pay three points to the winner, two points for second, one point for third and zero points for fourth.  When the fourth race is over the points will be totaled up and the driver with the most will take home the $1,000.00 1st place prize money.

“Back in the day the trophy dash was a regular part of every show,” Kazarian said.  “However, as racing became more expensive drivers and car owners did not want to go out in risk tearing up their equipment for a plastic trophy. So, the trophy dash at most racetracks has become a thing of the past. However, offering up this much money will have drivers jumping at the opportunity to get into the dash. And, the format we use adds a lot of excitement. We have done it a few times in the past in the fans absolutely love it.”

If that is not enough entertainment, as soon as fans walk through the gate, they will be greeted by the beautiful vintage racecars from the WRA.  Some of the sprint cars and midgets that will be on display will date back to pre-World War II.

Adult tickets for Saturday’s USAC/CRA race are $25.00.  Seniors 65 and over get in for $20.00.  For active military members with proper id, teens 13-18 with their school id and kids 6-12, it is just $5.00.  Children 5 and under are free.  Parking on the fairgrounds is $8.00.

Advance tickets for all PAS events, including this Saturday and November’s 23rd Annual Budweiser Oval Nationals presented by All Coast Construction, are available 24 hours a day online at https://pas.tix.com/Schedule.aspx?OrgNum=7 or by calling 1-800-595-4849.  For fans who do not want to buy advance tickets, there will be plenty available for everyone at the ticket window each race night.
