Out of something terrible like this, good will come.

Met Jason at Oshkosh when there was the WOO B series. He was a nice guy.

The racing communities condolences to the Johnson family.

This is especially terrible because his wife, Bobbi, has been through tthis before.

She was engaged to Kevin Gobrecht when he was killed racing with the Outlaws in  1999.

I had a horrible feeling when the wreck happened, but how many times have we seen a terrible wreck and the driver jumps out and waves to the crowd?

Then, as open red was called, and no one started working on the cars, and Gibson never said a word for 20-30 minutes, we knew something was not good.  There was a little joking around going on in the stands during the first 5 minutes of the red.  Then,  the crowd got very quiet.  Finally, when we could hear the helicopter, I think it sunk in for most people.  My first thought when I heard the helicopter was that Jason just took his last lap whether he survives this or not.  When they pulled the Legends cars out of the staging area and cancelled their feature, and it was only 10:30, that spoke volumes, because there is no curfew in Beaver Dam (as far as I know)

Woke up with a sick feeling in my stomach this morning and then grabbed my phone hoping not to get the news I read.

R.I.P.

I cannot take credit for this idea, as I saw it on a Facebook post, but I love it.  The Knoxville Nationals Championship feature should be 41 laps this year to honor Jason Johnson, Nationals Champ, racer, husband and Father....

Being a father of a two year old my heart breaks especially for his son Jaxx. First time I saw his wife and son was at Fremont when the outlaws were there last. I was looking for a t shirt for my son but no one had any in stock or in general. I saw one at Jason's trailer and Bobbi helped me with the size and gave me suggestions on the color. Gave me a free sticker too. As I was there I saw little Jaxx playing with his toy Sprint cars on the counter. Seeing Jason hold Jaxx in victory lane is the best memory I'll have of him. You could tell he loved racing, but he loved his wife and little boy more than anything.

I saw the Steve King foundation has set something up with all 100percent donations going to Bobbi & Jaxx. Stevekingfoundation.org

Great idea.   Great way to honor his legend.   It could be like the Chilli Bowl and become tradition that carries on for many years to come.

Actually may be more fitting to do that at the World Finals in Charlotte.

Probably hard to cut the distance at Knoxville since tickets have already been sold for a 50 lap feature.  I’m going and would not mind at all if they did that but some might.  Would make sense to do it maybe at the Jacksonville event that has now been rescheduled to October.  It was probably gonna be 40 laps anyway so just add 1 more.  There is some connection since it is getting postponed for his funeral.  Just a thought.

This has been a tough day. I've been following the Outlaws closely for a few years now since I got back into racing. I grew up in western PA and went to races a lot as a kid; Marion Center, Bedford, and Lernerville. I grew up watching Wearing, Watt, Burkett, and Red Neal. Damn, that was a long time ago in the 70s. Ioved those old camaro bodies on the late models. I haven't missed an Outlaw race this year having subsribed to DirtVision for the first time. Big Pittman fan. Have been since he came from 6th place with about 15 laps to go and win at Skagit last year. Love the color scheme on his car. I like the monochrome looks of just black and white.

I started to explain to my wife what happened yesterday and started bawling. I haven't cried like this in a very long time. I can't stop imagining this larger family of Outlaw husbands and wives having to explain to their children what happened. Pittman has two daughters that must be close in age to Johnson's boy Jaxx. Those kids all must spend a lot of time together.

And then there's Bobbi... WTF? Twice in her lifetime she goes through this?

Pittman? He's got to be dying inside. How does he get back in the car next weekend without just shaking uncontrolably? How can he forget that only a short time ago that Johnson totally had him smoked TWICE in a feature and Pittman lucked out with the properly timed yellow. After that race when they stuck the mic in Johnson's face he was all class. "That's racing, Daryn deserved the win". OMG. How can you not respect that guy? I'm not suggesting there was any ill intent. I'm only remembering that night because it demonstrated what a good guy Johnson must have been. Last night that just looked like aggressive racing on both their parts. I thought Pittman was getting the lead back when they were side by side.

I'm so bummed out. We lost a good one. Damn. Just, damn.

Thank you Rajun Cajun for one of the best nights in racing so many fans got to witness, Thank you for entertaining us all through the years. This just sickens me and I am so sorry for the family from the bottom of my heart. What a humble, talented &  good man Jason Johnson was. He will be forever remembered and missed.

I got home from the race Sunday morning after the 2 1/2 hour drive.  I parked the camper and came into the house.  My Wife greeted me with a good morning and proceeded to ask how it was.  I sat down and like you, the tears came out as I explained to her that it did not turn out well.  She knows my passion for the sport.  Just then, a call was taken by her and she started balling.  It was her son in Denver, calling to say the dog is going to the emergency vet and will need to be put down.  My wife was crying because of the dog situation, and that her son was alone in having to deal with his best friend being put down, and I was tearing up because of that and the situation from Saturday night/Sunday morning.  It was a very, very somber day in the household yesterday.  Very sad day indeed

RIP JJ.  Met him at Haubstadt.  Really nice guy.  Met his wife at Knoxville, when Sammy was driving their car.  Very nice people.  Prayers to the Johnson family
