Made a point in the Badlands statement, which is that it is tough to compare dirt tracks in the country to Jackson/Badlands in terms of the facility.  On that note, I wanted to see what everyone's top 5 are.  Note, this does not have anything to do with the racing surface nor the type of cars/program.  For example, I think that Deer Creek has some of the best racing, but the facility itself is not in by top 5.  Curious what everyone else thinks?

1)Badlands Speedway-It is really a gem.  The suites are really well appointed and the turn 4 suites are cool.  Love the new chair seating and the twin video boards.  Negative is that it's closed!

2)Jackson Speedway-I love Jacksons layout and the sightlines are really good from all the seats.  Sad that it isn't going to be a 1/2 mile.  I do wish they went to live feed of the racing on the video board.  Awesome suites too and the new campground is great.

3)Charlotte Dirt Track-I think this place is awesome, it is a NASCAR level facility.  Everything is new and clean.  Only negative is the parking and the food prices.

4)Perris Speedway-In fairness, it is since the mid 2000's when I was there, but I thought the whole facility was top class.  I loved the sitelines, great bleachers and the signature item was the sound system.  It is flat out Cali awesome.

5)I 80 Speedway-Beatiful layout with the pits in the infield, but not so bad that they obstruct the viewing.  I really like the seating up top.  Only real negative is no enclosed suites.  They should add those to the top of the turn 4 stands or replace the viewing platform with them.

Track I want to see-Eldora, I haven't been there since Earl owned it and want to see the upgrades they did to the facility.  Also want to see Texas Motor Speedway

Worst Track-I went to Farmers City one time thinking it would be a great 1/4 mile.  What a dump, and the catch fence couldn't catch a mosquito.  Glad the Outlaws don't go here anymore as it isn't safe.

Calistoga Speedway gets honorable mention. Haven't been to Jackson since the new grandstands and I haven't been to Eldora or I'm sure they would both make the list.

Why are people putting port royal on here. Yes they've made improvements but it's not even close to being one of the nicest facilities.  Jersey barriers are ugly. The copycat "Knoxville style" wall is nothing like Knoxville. The tin is all mismatch and with different shades of white. The front stretch wall is falling apart and they tried to cover it up with a bunch of paint. Lot of lipstick on a pig up there as far as how the place looks. Track surface is excellent though. Before people start ripping me apart, I love port and the improvements they've made up there. It's a great track. But not near as nice of a facility as Eldora, Jackson, Charlotte, husets, Lucas oil, Knoxville. Etc etc. Let's chill out on the port royal thing guys. It's much improved but not anywhere near elite.

Last season Port Royal posted photos of them “repairing” the front stretch wall, they didn’t just paint it. They also replaced the wall on the pit lane leading onto the speedway. They added 3200 seats and added Musco lighting around the entire speedway and in the entire pit area. That ain’t lipstick. The big wall was not to emulate Knoxville, it was to keep clay and sprint cars from going into the town.  And as the original topic states, this has nothing to do with racing, just the facility.  And I guess this is a facility thing, so go to about the 1:08 mark of this video and tell me how this facility can be called elite with this problem.

I don't really think you've missed anything by not going to TMS dirt track.   I believe it's a copy of the one in Charlotte anyway.   I'm not even sure I'd consider TMS a sprint car track though.   Last couple of years they've run an ASCS show during their season, but if you go to that one you'll have to sit through 150 modifieds too.    All that being said though, it is an extremely nice facility and certainly the best one that the North Texas area has to offer.

Thanks for the comment.  I was at Port 2 years ago, and it definately was NOT top 5.  It wasn't top 10.  Great track, love the racing and the town, but if you asked me to go watch a tractor pull there or Jackson or Perris, it isn't even close.  Now I understand they had some improvements, and need to make a trip back based on the comments, but without suites, and possibly a video board, they would have had a ways to go to crack my top 5.

The comment on Charlotte is based on the RACING.  This thread is supposed to be about the facility minus the racing.  Even if they had motor boats going around, I am more concerned about the facility.

On facility that I think has started to show its age is Eagle Raceway.  Last time I was there, saw a lot of chipped pain and didn't think all the lights were working.  Maybe I just caught an early season show before repaird were being made, but this used to be right up at the top.

Devils Bowl and Lucas are 2 that I need to see.  Got rained out as Devils Bowl, never been anywhere near Wheatland.

I can't imagine any facility being nicer then Lucas Oil Speedway.  Possibly similar but no way better.  The biggest negative I can give it is where its located.  There's almost no amenities anywhere close.  But I suppose that's how Eldora is too.  Other than that it's quite amazing what they've built, and continue to add to, out in the middle of nowhere.  From the dirt track to a drag boat lake to a new off road track with covered grandstands, it's first class all the way.

I know a lot of these are a little bias based on how far some have been able to travel. I've been to tracks from PA to CA, but here are my Top 5 picks in no particular order:

1 - Knoxville Raceway (Amazing atmosphere, elevator, Hall of Fame)

2. Badlands/Husets (A real shame whats happening there)

3. Dodge City Raceway Park (Elevator, paved pits, grass like your front lawn in the infield)

4. Salina Highbanks (good eats, plenty of parking)

5. Dirt Track at Charlotte (Tough not to pick at least one of Bruton's Smiths tracks)

Track itself:  absolutely have to have Jackson, Badlands and Knoxville in the top five, if not the top three, in any order.  All three, WOW!!  I've been to Vegas and Texas and assume Charlotte is the same, but will keep those billionaire dollar pieces of real estate out of the equation.  Why, I'm not sure why, just me IMO.

Lawlessness and liberalism equals Hell. NY City,
Detroit, Seattle, Chicago, Minnepolis, etc. We saw it.
Burning hundreds of buildings, a thousand assaults and
dozens of murders. Getting worser and worser.

I don't know TQ personally, but from what I do know of him he will keep the place up, and then some. I do know those that run the place and they will not let it slip in cleanliness and appearance. In fact, there are still plans in place that will result in even better fan experiences. I still pinch myself everytime I walk in to the facility, not only because it's so close to home, but because a dirt track facility like that even exists.  I was initially against shortening the 1/2 mile down, but after seeing the plans and understanding what the goals are, I am really excited about the racing to come. It's going to measure out right at 4/10 of a mile, so not all that much shorter. That distance will tighten up the racing, and give the engines a bit of relief, also. But I will say the old half mile had plenty of great racing action, and that does include the past couple of years with the return of the 410's, and larger 360 fields. The banking will be altered slightly and they are putting down quite a bit of new track surface. The campground continues to grow, and creating a family type atmosphere remains high on their priority list to attract more fans.
