As an outsider from Iowa, I am wondering what is going on with the tracks in Michigan.  I 96 is currently for sale for $750k and it appears is closing if they don't sell.  Now I see that Hartford Speedway is also closing and is looking for a buyer.  Aren't these the 2 biggest tracks in Michigan?

2 biggest tracks in Michigan? They use to be, if you judged them by size.

I-96 was a great weekly sprint car track back in the 80's and 90's. Hartford was a good weekly sprint car track in the late 90's. Both have been run in to the ground since then.

Hartford is for sale due to a family issue, and I understand that. I-96 has just been mis-managed for far too long. Both are aging facilities that will take a lot of money to get back in to operating condition at a decent level. After spending a weekend at Berlin, they have a LONG way to go. I fear both tracks may be doomed to be honest. Sure, someone could buy them for the asking price, and go racing. But, unless many changes are made to improve the facilities, they will not be any better than they are now.

I-96 has always been for sale and if someone gave him 750k I am sure he would be thrilled and walk away. That place is not even close to worth that kind of money. Current owner makes all the sprint series (GLSS) and large late model shows (Ethanol) lease the track to take the risk away from himself. I am sure it will be open business as usual in 2018 if it doesnt sell.

As for Hartford the Dibble family has done a good job improving the facility but they have a child who is ill and I just think they don't have the energy to continue. They have said they would continue in 2018 if the track doesn't sell. I think cutting the track size has helped. Each of the SOD sprint car races held this year there drew 25-29 cars a night which is a drastic improvement compared when it was a half mile they were lucky to get 14-17.

As for dirtracer74 comments about Berlin, it should would be nice if they left the dirt down one entire year to see what could be done.

Hartford is a decent place. Bring a blanket to sit on and you are good to go. Went for the Outlaw race this year and enjoyed. You could make some improvements but it is pretty turn key if you ask me.
