If a regular WoO show pays 10 grand to win, and the Brad Doty race pays 10 grand to win, why exactly is it included as a "month of Money" race?  You have Lernerville, Eldora, Williams Grove, Pevely and Knoxville that obviously pay much more "money" than usual.  I don't understand exactly why the Doty race is bunched in there with the others.  Any help?

because it's considered by the racers and fans one of the biggest EVENTS of the year.  Purse has nothing to do with that.

Using the race purse logic, why is the World Finals considered a big race?  It pays $10,000 one night and $12,000 the other....

Back in the day pre-Woo it used to be a bigger paying show to win but since now they have to pay the Woo sanctioning fee it is just a standard Woo purse. IMO this show should be a 12k and 1k to start show like World Finals but obviously that would take some of the profits away from the interested parties. Peronally I think they just include it out of respect for Brad, which I am fine with. Plus there are other standard purse races in the month of money Ransomville, Ohsweken, Hartford and Wilmot.

Because "the month of money" is a catchy term, not an exactly applied scientific term. Not all the "March madness" games are "mad", and not all the PA Speedweek" races are in Pennsylvania.

This race gets included probably based on the prestige of the event. It also has a classy sounding name. Maybe that helps too.

It would be interesting to see the final net income from the Shootout and Chili Bowl. I know there are a lot of expenses but holy cow a lot of income too. If Tony ever takes that over I expect the purse to increase quite a bit.

From a competitor stand point, the importance of a race is not just based on purse.  $10k is more than enough.  We won Turkey Night over 10 years ago and I couldn't tell you what it paid, but the trophy attracts comments from every racer that notices it on the garage shelf.  Not one has ever asked what it paid to win.

The man and driver that the Doty is named after is what makes it a standout among other races.

The All Stars still pay 5K to win even after Tony took the series over, but also in his defense, I believe he padded the purse back through. I would still like to see the All Stars pay 6 or &K to win though.

It's hard to argue that the purse is not large enough when they set record car counts every year.

Also hard to argue when the Chili Bowl most likely pays out more overall than any other midget race in the world.     Last I looked the prelim nights paid top to bottom.....I believe every position in every heat the one year (early 2000s) I saw the pay structure.

There are very few races left that aren't "all about the money".    I am glad the Chili Bowl is one of them.

Any racer will tell you. It's not the money. It's the race.  If knoxville pd 10K to win you would still see drivers trying to get that checkered flag.

The Brad Doty Classic pays 10 k to win on a Tuesday night. Weekday Outlaw races normally pay 6k to win. Correct me if I,m wrong. 4k more than required makes it the kickoff to the month of money. I think the prestige and extra 4k is ok with 99% of fans.

Also don't forget The Doty is a 1 night show compared to all but Lernerville a memorial race that goes back many many years.

The Doty was up to $15k to win in '03... first year that WoO sanctioned was in '05 I think?  Doty posted something on Twitter today that the total purse back in '03 was half of of what it is now... ie, top heavy.  That's probably about the only good thing about the switch to WoO sanction.  They could've revamped the purse without adding the sanction though too... and kept it a higher paying race.  Promoters want theirs too, which I get... can't have races without people willing to risk losing $$ to put on the show.

It's a t shirt race, I.e you get your name on the back of a t shirt if you win. Those are always big, no matter what the purse.

Having said that, this race should pay a bit more....

If everyone of you complaining about the pay would sponsor the race $1000 each I'd bet they would pay more

I wish Brad would move the classic to Lernerville. The guy that gave him his first ticket to tour on the outlaw trail was Sam Bowers out of Kittanning, Pa. Nance cars w/ Tommie Sanders as crew chief. Anybody no what became of him, he went to Gambler i remember that. I don't think there still around anymore either. Heard rumor 1 time someone bought them and was going to try to revive the brand. KSE was there brand also.
