Trying to find a good race over the 4th of July to attend. Anyone have any info on the IL midget nationals? Looks like some good cars scheduled to run but I really can't find much info on the event. Have they have raced at this arena and is the track they make any good? Also I can't tell how many classes or what the program would look like if it were just one class. Curious how many midgets would be there too. Maybe there is another race somewhat close in the Midwest I'm overlooking. Has to be reasonably close to home since I have to work half a day on Monday. Any help would be nice. The facility at Illinois State Fairgrounds looks very nice!

Looks like a 3 race weekend for midgets in IL. I doubt you'll be disappointed as the midgets put on a great show on those little tracks. Sounds like ticket prices are a bit steep but there are some discounts offered. Definately check out the IOW site, many nice people over there that will be more than happy to help you out.

I checked it out and got some more info. Still a little gray on it though. Looks like they are flipping sides of where you can sit due to the awning issues due to a storm. Hillside seating on the opposite side doesnt look bad though. As far as I can see this is the first time they will have a midget race at this arena?? Makes one a little nervous what the track will actually look like in shape and for track prep. If Im driving that far ticket prices aren't too concerning. I'll be at Knoxville for Saturday so Springfield is really the only race I would probably be able to do at a reasonable distance from home. Wish we could have USAC anything in Iowa more frequently but it just doesnt happen all that often.

I've been fortunate to see quite a few midget races in the midwest recently. I wouldn't worry about the track prep to much. It seems the midgets put on wonderful shows on tracks that some people think are not very good, although most tracks out there try really hard to have a good surface. I made my first visit to Knoxville on June 3rd for the USAC sprint race, had a great time there. Knoxville is an amazing facility. I'm fortunate that USAC comes into PA twice a year, I'm looking forward to eastern midget swing in 6 weeks. I'm sure you'll enjoy the midget racing in IL.
