BRODY ROA IMPRESSIVE IN USAC NATIONAL SPRINT CAR SERIES IN THE MIDWEST!

(Buena Park, CA, June 7, 2017) Southern California rising sprint car star Brody Roa had an impressive appearance in the USAC National Sprint Car Series on the first weekend in June. That weekend included a fifth-place finish at I-80 Speedway in Greenwood, Nebraska on June 2nd.

The journey to the Midwest was a quick warm up for an upcoming July trip to Indiana for the grueling “Indiana Sprint Week” which will see the BR Performance team square off against the USAC National Series teams seven times in nine days. Before heading off to Indiana, the team will continue its quest for the USAC/CRA Series championship with races at Perris Auto Speedway on June 24th and the Santa Maria Raceway on July 1st.

Roa opened last week’s two-race expedition by timing in 8th quick in a 26-car field for the “I-80 Dirt Classic.” That placed him in the second eight-lap heat race where he had to take on a star-studded field that included the top two drivers in the USAC National Series standings and a multi-time USAC National champ. Starting fourth in the nine-car lineup, the 26-year-old briefly slipped back to fifth. However, he immediately scrambled back to fourth and held off the current National Series point leader for one of the five transfers to the A-main.

Through qualifying and his impressive run in the heat race, the visitor from the west was raising eyebrows of the Midwestern fans and competitors alike. Little did they know; the best was yet to come!

Starting in the eighth spot on a tricky track that was taking rubber was going to make things tough on every driver. However, after the field got itself sorted out after the first couple of laps, Roa began moving forward. He was in seventh by the end of the third lap and was into fifth on lap seven. Over the final 23 laps he never slipped further back than sixth and at one point found himself in fourth. When the checkered flag ended the event, he took a hard fought, crowd pleasing fifth place finish.

The following evening the team made the trek to “The Sprint Car Capital of the World,” The Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa. First off was qualifying and Roa timed in 15th in the 35-car field. He followed that up with a stirring performance in his eight-lap heat race. Starting in the third spot of the heat, he was leading by the end of the first circuit and proceeded to lead the first seven laps before eventually finishing second on the big half-mile oval.

Things looked promising in the main event, but that was not to be. Starting 15th, everything went smoothly on the first lap and he advanced one spot running the bottom. Then, it all unraveled in a hurry. Cars in front of him tangled going down the back straight causing a big crash on lap two. Roa had nowhere to go and caught a small piece of the action, but it was enough to tear off the left front shock mount ending his evening with a disappointing 20th place finish and wondering what could have been.

Driver, car and crew are now back in Southern California and getting ready for the June 24th Perris race. Heading into that race the team is second in the USAC/CRA championship standing. Thus far in three races at the famous Riverside County half-mile clay oval in 2017, Roa has not finished out of the top five with a fifth, a third and a second-place finish. The following Saturday it is on to Santa Maria for the first of two USAC/CRA races at the 1/3 of a mile banked oval in 2017. At the only series appearance at Santa Maria in 2016, Roa finished third in the main event. As well as racing in the USAC/CRA Series at Santa Maria last year, Roa also appeared there two times on his way to the USAC West Coast Sprint Car Series championship. In those two outings, he posted one win and one second-place finish.
