TRI-STATE “SUMMER SHOWDOWN” SET FOR JUNE 10
Haubstadt, IN - June 5, 2017 - The racing season continues for the
Hoosier Tire Midwest Sprint Car Series with an appearance for the
organization on June 10th at Tri-State Speedway in Haubstadt, IN.
The program will be a Saturday night doubleheader featuring the
non-wing sprints plus the UMP Open Wheel Modifieds. It will be the
only sprint car race to be held during June at the speedway. The
event is billed as the “Tri-State Summer Showdown” and is a jump
start on the racing scheduled over the summer which also includes the
Late Model Summernationals there on Sunday June 25th.
The MSCS Sprints will be competing for a $2,500 top prize. This is
an increase over what the feature for this particular show paid last
year. Competitors can expect to find the pit gates open at 3:30 P.M.
Ticket sales and grandstand admission is set for 4:30. Warm-ups for
sprint cars are at 6 P.M. with group qualifying to follow. Opening
ceremonies will precede racing action which will begin at 7:30.
As racing moves into the summer months the MSCS points battle is
heating up. The leaders Carson Short and Brady Short are separated
by just 6 points. The two ran third and fourth the last time out
with Brady finishing third and cutting into Carson’s slim points
lead. Brandon Morin and Kyle Cummins are now tied for third in
season points. Brandon Mattox and Max McGhee are in the hunt for
the final Top Five spot and stand just 11 points apart. A win in a
heat race is worth 10 points.
In the driver ranks each season there is a second battle. That one
is for Rookie of the Year honors. It is also close after the five
events held so far this season. Ben Knight leads Kendall Ruble by 7
points. Consistency plays a role. Ruble has made the show twice in
four efforts this season. Hard luck is waiting around a corner
sometimes. Ben Knight was running in the last chance race in an
effort to make the feature on May 28th when he had the misfortune to
wreck his sprint car at the south end of the speedway. On May 13th
at Haubstadt Knight finished ninth in the feature.
Sixty-three drivers have competed with MSCS so far this season. The
regulars have been tested by others when paths cross. Five feature
races have produced 5 different winners. The streak could continue.
There are a dozen frontrunners who have finished second, third, or in
the top five and have yet to capture a win. Brady Short has been the
most consistent in logging 5 Top Five finishes in 5 efforts. Max
McGhee was very fast Memorial Day Weekend in finishing second,
MSCS features are almost always unpredictable races that continue to
build excitement lap after lap. Those all important last five laps
have fans watching for that one all important move that produces a
win and perhaps a new winner!
