WORLD OF OUTLAWS ONLY SO CAL APPEARANCE AT PERRIS AUTO SPEEDWAY THIS SATURDAY!
(Perris, CA, March 27, 2017) The legendary World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series will make its way to Southern California for the only time in 2017 this Saturday night, April 1st, for the annual “So Cal Showdown,” which will also feature the Amsoil USAC/CRA Sprint Cars and The PAS Young Gun & Senior Sprints at the “Southern California Home of Major League Sprint Car Racing,” Perris Auto Speedway. Spectator gates will open at 4:00 PM and racing will begin at 7:00.
Fans who purchase reserved seat tickets in advance will receive a free “World of Outlaws Fan Pit Pass.” The fan pit pass will allow the spectators to get up close and meet their favorite WoO stars, take photos, get autographs and purchase merchandise straight from their favorite teams. Saturday’s event will be the 12th race of 2017 for the WoO and it will come hot on the heels of races Wednesday at Placerville Speedway and Friday at Keller Auto Speedway in Hanford. Through the early part of the year, 39-year-old Minot, North Dakota veteran Donny Schatz has been the top driver on the circuit. The eight-time World of Outlaws champion has won six of the first nine races. Those six wins give him 237 in his World of Outlaws career that began in 1997 when he won the “Kevin Gobrecht Rooke of the Year” award.
Even though Schatz has won eight World of Outlaws championships and is ranked third on the all-time win list only trailing Steve Kinser and Sammy Swindell, he has never won at The PAS. At the World of Outlaws last race at The PAS on April 16th, 2016, Schatz was fifth in the main behind Owasso, Oklahoma’s Daryn Pittman, Brad Sweet of Grass Valley, California, Brownsburg, Indiana’s Joey Saldana and Shane Stewart of Bixby, Oklahoma.
Pittman’s win last April was his third win at the famous Riverside County half-mile clay oval and another win on Saturday would only leave him one behind all-time PAS WoO victory leader Mark Kinser of Oolitic, Indiana. The only other drivers with more than one WoO win at The PAS are Saldana and Dover, Missouri’s Danny “The Dude” Lasoski. They each have won two at the Southern California oval. Lasoski set the all-time one lap track record at The PAS with a time of 13.875 on February 23, 2002.
