The management at Port has been doing a hell of a job with the facility in recent years. Job well done.

Once again, Port Royal shows why it is the premier track in PA. Lighting, clean toilets, warm water to wash the tinkle of your hands... The list goes on! A+ Port Royal

Lol, This coming from someone in IA? I spent just enough time in that state on my way to SCCA nationals in NE to know that's the pot calling the kettle black...

I thank Port Royal for all they are doing to make the track the best in Pennsylvania.
But as a racer I would like for them to do two safety improvements.
First is put a gate or remove the opening where the cars get pushed out now. It is right at the exit of turn 4, if a car slides out just a little the right rear wheel will go in that opening and the results will be bad. A track should never have an opening at the exit of a turn on the outside.
Second change is get rid of the tractor tires at the pit exit. Those tires are full of dirt and they are petrified from all the years being there. Replace the tires with foam blocks like Fremont speedway uses.

I'm all for any safety improvements. As a racer have you made these requests known to Port Royal management directly?

I'm just a fan but I totally agree on both. Also, I still don't think it's the best idea to have those jersey barriers around the inside of the speedway. Yes they look nice but I'd hate to think what would happen if a sprint car hit one of those like a ramp and ended up in the infield. I was scratching my head over that one the minute the announced they were installing them. Bad idea.

The gap off of turn 4 has been brought up a few times, however it is farther down the straightaway than you realize.
Also, as someone who has hit the tires off of 4 as recently as 2013, I can assure you they do their job. I don't disagree that it could be evaluated with a better solution.
I will promise you after my accident Port Royal is taking every safety precaution to improve everything for not just the drivers and teams but the fans as well.

Judging from how that opening looks on Google Maps, it looks like it would be impossible to slide out enough to hit those barrels. If you did hit the barrrels, it looks like you'd have to be shooting straight up from the bottom of turn 4, in which case, it looks like you'd be in trouble no matter what.

Port royal may look nice but the racing IMO is boring. you might see a pass or two, and when you do see A pass. Everyones like that was a great race....lol....Not to often you see a barn burner up there.
