Stumbled across this today.

http://kelofm.com/news/articles/2017/jan/17/complaints-against-badlands-speedway/

looks like someone that lives in the general area is going to make it tough for anyone to purchase the speedway if they get a noise ordinance implemented by the Minehana County Commission.  It's really up to you to make sure it doesn't happen to attempt to save your raceway up there.  They pass a noise ordinance and it will be even tougher to sell the place.

Peronally, I didn't care for the way Chuck handled himself, but I want Huset's to be sold to another owner so weekly racing can return to Huset's (we don't need less tracks, we need more).

People are ridiculous. That speedway has been there how long? If you move close to a speedway that is existing one has to assume there would be noise on the weekends. How can people move in close to a racetrack and try and shut it down for noise when the track does so much for the surrounding economy and they chose to live near it...

People are ridiculous, but with ownership and weekly racing in doubt up there, it seems a local has taken the opportunity to pounce in my opinion.

I will say again what I've said for years.  It's up to Racetracks to be PRO-ACTIVE, not reactive when it comes to noise and controlling what they can control, ie: start time and no downtime for breaks.  They need to implement their own noise ordinances and self imposed curfews (or at least have a plan to end events at a certain time, some things can't be planned for like rain, accidents, etc.).

Tracks that choose to drone on until the wee hours of the night because of 8 division weekly races, long breaks, and a general lack of urgency usually find themselves subject to complaints by neighbors and are slowly but surely dying out.

Even tracks that are Pro-Active are feeling the heat, Valley Speedway in Grain Valley, MO is one example.

I agree, people are rediculous but you have to play the hand you're dealt. If the number of vocal, rediculous people start to outnumber the race fans then there's a problem for race fans. It's an unfortunate reality effecting dirt tracks everywhere including 2 near me, same story, 60 year old track vs. 10 year resident. Ocean Speedway in Watsonville, CA and Calistoga Speedway are both feeling the heat from the neighboring residents about the noise. California is incredibly sensetive to those issues but regrdless, Vande77 is right, fans, track, and promoters have to be pro-active, and vocal. Maybe set the track curfew with the curfew of the nearest town. If Brandon's standard noise ordinance is10:00pm, then races should be done at 10:00pm. I personally appreciate the curfew locally because I bring my kids to the races and get them home at a decent time.

Get the local newspaper, news channel, and local racing publications involved as well. Everybody knows somebody so recruit your non-racing friend (I'm assuming most only have one) if you can. Sponsors can be a good avenue to reach people as well. Be vigilant of county meetings concerning the matter. Anything that can be done will help to prolong the use of those damn mufflers. I'm used to them now but I'd rather go unprotected. Yet, better protected then none at all!

As my user ID says I live 3 miles from Eagle raceway. Have for 14 years. Maybe 1-2 times a year if the wind is right and I am outside and listen close I will hear the races.(Usually the sprints of course as they are the loudest) I am sure if you live in a 1 mile radius it is louder but as anyone know it comes with the territory. Biothchers are gonna biotch. Plenty louder things go on in the country. Grain driers are louder. Jets coming into Lincoln airport are noisy, Cattle herds, especially during calving are 24x7 noisy for weeks and louder, etc. Guy is a busy body, prob moved out of town a few years ago expecting perfect serenity. Or, wanting to sell acreage lots off his land and he is not having the luck he thought he would. This mechanized world is not Mayberry….

The noise situation has been going on @ Huset's for years.

The winers shouldn't be complaining this year anyway with only 6 races scheduled.

People are ridiculous is right.  My local speedway (now former local speedway) started in the 40's.  Then, in the 70's (or maybe even 80's) a trailer park opens.  For 3 decades, the owner of that trailer park fought to have the race track closed.

In the end, the financial issues of the owners brought about the demise of the track.  But this was precipitated, I believe, from the constant fight with this idiot land owner and his trailer park (or Estates as he called it).

The track was constantly having hearings in the city, year after year, to have its operating and liquor licenses renewed.  And, each year, they gave them a one-year license.  So, as you can imagine, the track's condition went downhill fast.  Who wants to stick money in a facility that may not even have the right to operate the following year?

I will say this--at least Badlands/Husets is not in Illinois.  This God-forsaken state will do absolutely nothing to keep businesses open--especially if it may offend or irritate more than 3 people.  And if you do want to open a business, whatever you do, don't rely on alcohol sales for part of your revenue.  You may have 3000 hoops to jump through

I see in one of the Groups I'm in on Facebook that Angel Park is have problems because of the noise.

While here in Des Moines with the Fairgrounds track being gone now, the noise problem there is now gone too, the neigbors around the Fairgrounds complained for years about the noise. The City enacted a noise ordnance many years ago that the races had to be over by 10:00pm or they were fined - ONLY TIME THE ORDNANCE WASN'T IN EFFECT WAS DURING THE STATE FAIR. I believe the biggest voice against the Fairgrounds track however was Gary Slater's wife she NEVER liked the races.
