Just came back from Perris Auto Speedway where I saw great racing the first two nights but very disappointed with closing night .Track conditions were not good on Saturday , but  also  surprising was , that not more Ca fans did not turn out for all three nights .At any other track the grandstands would be packed especially in either Indiana or Pa for example , as the fans support the racing . Like to know why you CA fans didn't show up or is there just a shortage of non-wing fans in that area ? Perris Auto Speedway is a great facility , I think it's one of the best in the country , the concessions are a little high in price but overall a great place to see a race .

BS Bob. I was at Williams Grove back in September and the stands were half full, at best. I lived in California for 3 years - I'd put any of the tracks I visited (Chico, Petaluma, Marysville, Placerville, Calistoga, Hanford, Bakersfield, Ventura, and Perris) against any of your beloved PA "palaces". The racing and the CA too!

Didn't look real crowded on live feed

I went last year & the crowd was good, but there were still lots of open seats

track on Saturday was like a day time track , no one could pass. Crowd was good on Saturday but not that filled like it would be in other states .

your right about Wms Grove , sometimes the crowds are down in Pa as well but the support was not that good at Perris , maybe better at other tracks in CA you mentioned but not at Perris for a high profile race .

I think you need to rewatch the video that was just posted if you think no one could pass.  That race looked pretty good to me.  JUst because the winner walks away from the field doesn't mean it's a bad racetrack.

Winner did not walk away , yes he got through lapped cars but cars behind  him were actually faster then him , it was more like follow leader , even other drivers thought if track had been better they might have had a chance to win . Track was better other two nights , closer racing in general . But regardless I highly recommend attending Oval Nationals at Perris Auto Speedway , just not well attended by local people some locals but alot from other states .

Of course it would be back on schedule as it's one of there bigger races . But my main point is, would have like to seen a bigger crowd for such a great event . This race would be packed anywhere else ? don't know why it wasn't ?

Robert, IMO, there are 3 reasons why the stands are half empty (and always have been) on Thursday and Friday of the Oval Nationals. (1) Traffic, (2) Traffic, and (3) Traffic.  All 3 of the main freeways east bound out of LA and Orange County come to a standstill at 3 P.M. A racefan would have to take half a day off work both Thursday and Friday to have any chance of getting to the track in time for the show, and I suspect most employers wouldn't be receptive to that.  As far as the real locals, if you look at the demographics of the city of Perris and surrounding areas, I doubt that most people there could afford to take their family to 3 consecutive days of premium priced racing.

One thing to consider is the fact that The PAS seats just under 9,000 fans.  At most dirt tracks around the country, the crowd that was at The PAS on Saturday would more than fill their grandstands.  Actually the crowd was up all three nights.  Especially the Thursday and Friday crowds.  I think it is safe to say the Thursday and Friday crowds were the best ever for the Ovals and they were mostly (like always), made up of out of town fans.  As was pointed out above, traffice keeps many locals away on Thursday and Friday.  If you get off work in or around L.A. at 3:00, you are just not going to make it.  I am 36 miles west of the track.  If I lwere to eave after 3:00 PM on Thursday or Friday, that usually would turn into a 90 minute drive.

Track was heavy on Saturday and fast around the pole.  That is where everybody ran.  The wind that was forecast never showed up and the track stayed heavy.   Best racing by far was on Friday night.

Agreed. Never been there but Cali has some awesome tracks and has produced tons more talent that hit the road and won a lot of races and championships. One thing is for sure, I see a lot of pictures posted from tracks out there showing big cushions. In Pa, we pretty much don't see any of those because everyone is hell bent on knocking them down with push truck parades. I think from what I've seen from videos, Tulare might be one of the top 3 sprint car tracks in the country as far as the quality of the racing. I've seen some good stuff from Chico, Placerville, Calistoga, Ocean & Stockton too. They have produced a lot of talent that had success out on the road too. It's a shame Rico, Larson & Bell are being bought by the NASCAR machine. I truly believe that those 3 would have owned sprint car racing for many years to come. Especially after Schatz is done. I like my home tracks and our local talent here in PA but no one can take a damn thing from Cali. I really want to do a tour out there some day. Probably never will but a guy can dream right?

Have you ever gone to a race that isn't at Port, Susky or Selinsgrove that you didn't find something to bitch about?

I am not B-ING as you say , I just tell it like it is . Perris is a great track , been there twice and will go back . Everyone should take in non-wing racing there or anywhere . Love all racing like to see it consistent but I know it's hard to control track surfaces with weather but it would have produced great racing Saturday if the track had been close to what it was either Thursday or Friday which was great .

Thanks Scott for your info but I would have loved to seen the track better like either Thursday or Friday and it would have been great not boring . I know the outcome may have been different but closer and more side by side instead of follow the leader around the inside . Also a true fan finds a way to get to a great race . I am glad your attendance was up , it's a great race and should be supported .

True dat. When I was sitting in traffic last year fuming & freaking out that I was missing heats, I thought "Why would anyone live here?" Then of course my next thought was "Obviously millions of people do...."
