I wanted to post my thoughts on the whole subject of my husband Paul parting ways of the #20 car at the conclusion of this 2007 season. I want to thank those of you posters who have generous things to say about Paul. As for the ones who have negative things to say about Paul, his ability to drive a race car, the fact that you may feel he never belonged in the #20 car, I really want to say unless you have your real name and occupation posted and you are hiding behind a screen name then you are a COWARD. Have any of you ever raced a car on the World of Outlaw tour? I ask that you consider that these drivers that you so easily bash are what you come to watch. Most of you are fans of one driver maybe 2 or 3, but let me assure you that without all the guys who come out and put their lives on the line doing what they love, and you obviously do too, or you would not be interested in the sport at all. Without them you would not have the sport. Please consider that we have a family and this is our lively hood and when you post horrible things it hurts. Would you like someone posting awful things about one of your loved ones? You get to hide behind your screen name and be as mean as you want and as cowardly as you want. But we have to sit back and have you dissecting our lives. If you would like to hate Paul then so be it, that is your business, but come by the trailer some night and talk to Paul and see if you still hate him. E-mail us@ paulmcmahanracing.com, tell us how you feel, post whatever you want, but don't hide who you are and what you do, if you are so brave. If you can't come out of hiding then stop judging.
I wanted to take this opportunity to thank Tony Stewart and all of the employees at TSR for letting Paul, myself and our children be a part of their family for the last 2 years. Unfortunately things did not work out. I would be lying if I did not say this saddens me greatly. But it is the nature of this business and Paul has always said that 4 bolts are the easiest things to replace on a team.
In closing I want to add that there is no "I" in team. Think what you want but don't knock just the drivers all the time.
Jan McMahan

Too bad that the offending posters do not have the ability to think about what they post.

For whatever reason, this post makes me think back to Doty's Still Wide Open. Albeit before my time, it gave me the impression that drivers back then were let go as soon as the results were not there. AND before message boards let a driver's performance be disected worldwide via a high speed connection! I subscribe to the theory of walikng a mile in a man's shoes before judging him. 99.9% of us on this board have no idea what went on behind the scene at TSR. We just see the results.

Jan, it's admirable that you are defending your husband on here. I do have some advice though. JUST STAY OFF OF THE FORUMS. I have owned, wrenched, and driven my own sprint cars for nearly 20 years, and I have to say that from my perspective, 90% of the yahoos on here have NO CLUE about the sport they love. They sit in the stands, get f'ed-up, come down afterwords, stumble through the pits, and then drive home. They couldn't even fathom the amount of work it takes to get a car to the track or how physically and mentally demanding sprint cars can be. Asking the naysayers to stop by and say hello or say what they think to your face is pointless. As you said, they are cowards behind a screen.
My favorite call-out was when Randy Anderson told some d*ckhead on here that he would be at Knoxville behind a certain barn in a whatever it was motorhome. Randy told him to come by and he would straighten him out. As far as I know, the pu**y never showed.
Anyway, good luck to you and your family. Gdude

Thanks for posting Jan. The truth of the matter is Lasoski also had one of the most miserable runs in his career before Paul took over in continuation. Common sense tells you that more than just whoever was behind the wheel is at fault. Best of luck.

I still don't see why anyone thinks a couple of Outlaw wins and sitting 8th in points is such a terrible season? Are you kidding me? How many guys would kill to have that GOOD of a season? The idea that he has to win every race is just nonsense. Good luck Paul and Jan. Everything happens for a reason.

There is nobody that has a win on the outlaw tour this year that sucks. NOBODY. And Paul has 2. I don't understand getting rid of a driver after 2 years. Especially with the outlaws. Look at the frontrunners Schatz and Saldana. Their rookie years were 96 and 97. It's been over ten years. This isn't NASCAR where guys can get in and win a championship in 3 or four years. It just hasn't worked that way. A team needs more than two years to mesh with eachother.

Jan and Paul, you know how we feel about you kids. Wishing you the best in your future . You are bigger than some of the posters who hide or love to be brutal.

I think it's cool that you support your husband so well. A man smart enough to marry a woman like that is not destined for failure, only changes.

Paul is a great guy. he talks to fans more than most drivers seems to care more about them then some. he knows fans and drivers alike make this business and the sport we all hold dearly. great job being in 8th place with 2 wins. you will find a great ride somewhere even if it isnt a WoO touring ride

hang in there paulie and good luck. the only thing not bolted in is the driver, and then we only fasten them in with quick release strapps. lol. your seat will fit just as well in the next car as in the last one.

I had the privilege of meeting Paul this year in Knoxville. I was in the booth with Bill W. for the ADN Broadcast and he had Paul helping on Sunday night for the 360 Nationals. Class act and a very fun guy to be around, it was a very enjoyable evening.
Good Luck Paul with the rest of '07 and '08 as well...!!!

First of all I want to agree with saying that Paul is one of the nicest guys on the tour, I havent had a problem talking to 95% of the drivers on the tour weather it be before or after the race. I also want to say that having 2 wins and being in the top 10 in points is not a bad season at all, as far as being relased from TSR it kinda reminds me of what the University of Nebraska did a couple of years ago in getting rid of a coach who went 9-3 his final season and I guess that wasnt good enough for people. People expect results right away not knowing what goes on behind the secens no matter what it may be if you got the best then you should be the best right?? thats just the mentality of most.
No matter what Paul dose next season I wish him the best and hope to see him contiune on the tour.

Paulie is a waste of skin!! Just kidding folks don't get your panties in a wad, it's just an ongoing joke between him and I for about the last 5 years.
Seriously Paulie is one of the coolest cats out there and he's never ever changed in the 10 or so years I've known him. Paulie and Jan will be alright and we'll see them out there somewhere in '08
