Eldora's track record was set by Craig Dollansky back in 2002 at 12.707. 14 years later your lucky to see a car run under 13.5.... tonight you were lucky to see under 14. I understand the track gets slicked over the second night but it's simply not as fast as it used to be. Anyone care to explain? What am I missing?

Couple things. There was a little more banking in the track back then. Plus, the track was heavy that night, and they were wide open through the middle of the corner. Plus a few rule changes in the cars since then. I can not remember exactly when what rules were implemented, but I know the weight rule was around that time. Plus wing and tire rules have changed.

I'm thinking mainly the banking.

It just seems like the advances in technology would improve the cars enough to compensate for the banking loss and rule changes. Similar to the nhra top speeds from shortening the tracks. I believe they are back to running in the 330's like they were when it was a quarter mile. Not an apples to apples comparison but you get the idea.

That's why even though I only live an hour away, my money is staying in my pocket this weekend. I also would love to go see the big block Modifieds at Eldora next week, but with the pure stocks (trucks) there too, the track willasphalt.  No thanks. asp

Ain't just Eldora.   The WoO came back to Devils Bowl three years ago after a nearly 10 year absence.   You'd think the track record should have been at least equaled if not lowered, but they're at least a 1/2 second higher and maybe more on the second night.    I'm thinking tires?  Wings?

Looks like Knoxville's track record was set back in 2006 at a 14.4. last time the outlaws were there they ran 15.4. My thinking is its more the cars than the tracks.

Agree with the above sentiments on Eldora.. it's sad, really.

If conditions are right at Knoxville, max speed can be achieved. Shane Stewart ripped a 14.5 just last May before it rained. Track record speeds @ Knoxville don't usually yield good racing. The Dunkins purposely keep it slick with a decent bottom & top.  15.4 in June produced some pretty awesome racing, IMO.

Track was junk last night, amazing Thursday night. But never was the track record ever even close to being broke at the kings Royal. Fast qualifying there usually equals boring race. Nothing wrong with low 13's and having great features. I was dissapointed in the racing last night like everyone else because it was so good Thursday night, but comeon guys. Last spring they was qualifying 12.9's and ur telling me your going to bash the place because the tr hasn't been broken in 14 years?!?! I will say this, it won't be broken tonight but u can bet ur ass it'll be racy.

Werent most track records made pre weight rule??? I think that has a lot to do with it.  I'm also not too sure what the big deal about a track record is.  I don't care if we're 4 seconds off the track record, if the racing is good that's fine with me.  Does anybody have a statistic on what the lap time was at the other Eldora Earl tried to build?

The banking at Eldora was shaved off long before Tony purchased the track. I'm thinking they cut the banks down some where around "The Million" or shortly ater, About the time the "Prelude to the Dream" started.

I'd be curious to see what Dave Steel, Brian Gerster, Brian Tyler & Jeff Bloom could do tonight in their Must See Racing Xtreme winged pavement cars.

We need to research that because I'm leaning the other way. I'm quite certain the banking was changed after Tony purchased the track. I believe it was done from the bottom up. The wall heigth looks to have remained the same. Leads me to believe they brought dirt in and built the bottom and middle up to decrease the banking.  But how it was done is only my guess.
