The date for the I-80 Dirt Classic is drawing near. The National Sprint League returns to I-80 Speedway on Friday, May 6 and they are bringing something different, a fan voted format.
That format includes the normal time trials with the top qualifier getting 100 points with a decrease of 2 points per position. There will be two sets of heat races. The first set of heat races will be lined up straight up based on time trials with heat race winners receiving 100 points followed by a decrease of 5 points per position.
The second round of heat races will be lined up with a full inversion based off time trials. The heat race winners will receive 200 points with a decrease of 5 points per position. The top 16 cars in combined points will transfer to the A feature and be lined up by total points accumulated. The remaining cars will run a B feature and race for the final A feature starting spots.
The feature event pays $10,000 to win.
Ticket for the event can be purchased online at http://dirtclassic.com/dirt-classic-i-80/. Advanced Adult tickets are $22 and $25 day of race. Kids (6-12) are $5 with 5 and under free as always.

Looks like a great event. Dale Blaney mentioned on Winged Nation today that he plans on being there as well, so another quality car on top of an already stout field of NSL and midwest regulars.

Darn it. I was hoping he would be at Eldora that weekend for the Outlaws. I remember a few years ago back in 2013 i think some cold weather came through the Knoxville area and caused them to cancel earlier in the week. A lot of the Knoxville guys like Brown, Madsen, and McCarl to name a few came over for that event and had almost 45 great quality cars. It was an awesome weekend. I remember Brown and Sweet exchanging the lead several times for 3-4laps and Pittman got around both Brown and Schatz on a late restart to win.
Sorry to sound selfish, but I was hoping nothing else was going on that weekend so some more Midwest Regulars would come over to the House that Earl Built so I could see them race. I love seeing them whenever I get the chance but it looks like they will be staying in that area and I can't blame them. Hoping in the next couple of years I can make it to the Nationals or Just an Outlaw or NSL weekend in the Midwest.

Danny Lasoski will be the man to beat, he has been winning at I-80 Speedway since May 1994 when they opened the track.

I bet that pains Blaney to nearly drive right past Eldora and pass up two $10,000 to win shows (that he would be one of the favorites to win at), only to have to drive an extra 12 hours for a one-day show.
Considering it's an NSL show and he has Big Game all over his car, I guess no one should be surprised by that move though.

Yeah, ummm not dumb...at all. On the surface it may seem like it, but as someone above notes Tod Quiring owns NSL. I-80 Dirt Classic is co-sanctioned with NSL. TQ is the singular major (very very major) sponsor of Blaney's ride. Sometimes you gotta make the sponsor happy and this is one of those cases. He could technically make it back for Saturday. The 700 mile drive from Omaha to Eldora is a pain, but it's possible they could get in around Noon Saturday, catch a cat nap, work on the car and hit the track. Not ideal (at all) but possible.

Blaney also said they planned on racing Knoxville that Saturday.
To me, it serves two purposes (1) sponsor obligation, and (2) gives them a chance to hit Knoxville for a race before August (take a look at the All-Star Schedule, there is this weekend (May 7) and the Cappi Classic weekend out there to allow them track time).

Blaney going there is most definitely a sponsor obligation. Whatever though, Eldora/WOO's loss is our gain!
