Jeff's wreck/Knoxviile Safety Crew
Blog Submitted by grovemedic2 on 08/08/2008 at 1:30 PM Report Blog

Hows it going all. I would like to talk about last nights wreck in turn one. I know last night when the wreck was going on that the race track put a helicopter in the air to meet them at the local hospital and also that Jeff was awake when they loaded him into the ambulance so hopefully everything is going OK with him I have not heard any updates on his current condition. I was down in turn one when this happened and it was a bad wreck as everyone has seen, but I tell you what that was another good job by the safety crew at Knoxville they were at the car and before you realised what went on the hole crew was there working fast and safely to get him out. I know they used the jaws of life to cut around the frame to get him where they could get him out alot easier. I did some talking last night not sure who I was talking to but these names were brought up numerous times during the conversation. Mark Vickroy was one of the medics who was working on him and did the a fantastic job! on the other side of the car was Doug Ripperger who also was doing a fantastic job giving orders and on the top of the car was Scott Beary who was working with his head and keeping him from moving Scott is also in turn one. Austin Kingrey from turn 3 was running the jaws and there was several people after the wreck that was talking about how great of a job he did, when he was cutting the frame he had no room for error beings how Jeff was still out at this point and his arms were in the way and Austin had to cut in a slow and precise manner and then he had to make a cut next to the fuel tank where the fuel hose was in the way. I think they said he made 5 cuts on the car. This crew is by far the best i've seen anywhere i've been and I don't think they get enough credit for what they actually due I wish they would bring them up front after the national anthem so we can give them a stand up ovation because they deserve the support of fans. If you see these crew members give them a pat on the back and also the rest of the crew that was there to help.

Thanks so much for the fun and safety at Knoxville Raceway

Jim
